  •  Overview

The pattern on this blanket is a design taken from 'behind the scene' - it is originally an instruction how to embroider a specific stitch on the embroidery machine. By blowing up and switching the textile discipline the old school technical drawing reveals its ornamental qualities.
Franziska Born is a Zurich based textile designer, developing products and projects for clothing and interiors, spatial applications and costume design. She teaches at the Lucerne School of Art and Design, where she established the embroidery unit and has been a lecturer in Textile Design. In 2003 she won the Swiss Design Award, and has worked on numerous creative collectives.
Throughout the wide spectrum of disciplines and media that she uses, Franziska Born pursues a particular interest in appearance and reality. She deliberately explores the spaces between sketchiness and highly mastered technique, between the hand-made and the machine-made, between tradition and innovation and between high and low culture.
The ZigZagZurich Cotton Artist blankets and throws collection was inspired by our love of cotton weaving transforming original artists work. Using jacquard looms with super fine cotton, we weave these in small quantities. Soft yet tough enough, they can be used any where - home, garden, beach, pool, picnic - a design statement wherever you go! No returns.
