Hi there! I'm Dulci Edge; a travel junkie and freelance art director. I take pretty pictures and write about my trips and travel at The Far & Near. I've called New York home for 11 years and I'm excited to take you for a spin in my hood, Union Square. It’s the perfect mix of old and new with some seriously delicious eats. Let’s go! @ladulcivida
No trip to Union Square is complete without a stop at @unsqgreenmarket; It’s been a neighborhood landmark since 1976. Rub elbows with New York City chefs stocking up on fresh produce and local farmers showcasing their wares. It’s my go-to for fresh flowers for my apartment, and apple cider (for cocktails!) from @redjacketny.
@abckitchen is a perennial favorite with mismatched silverware, beautiful floral arrangements and some pretty outstanding food. I love the Scandinavian vibe of the dining room. Tip: The lunch prix-fixe is one of the best deals in Manhattan.
After lunch, head over to @abccarpetandhome for 6 floors of drool-worthy design finds. You’ll need plenty of time: with nearly 8 acres of ground to cover this massive warehouse is hostess-gift central with gems from Tom Dixon, Tata Harper and my fave, @astierdevillatte.
Old Town Bar is a New York classic, serving suds since 1892. I love the 55 foot long antique mahogany and marble bar, tin ceilings, cozy wooden booths and crumbling tile floors. Oh, and the burger...I really love the burger.
For a midday pick-me-up, I like@tobysestatecoffee. This location cohabitates with a pop-up version of the eponymous @strandbookstore, and the ever elegant @putnamflowers, making it an Instagram Triple Threat. Add herringbone wooden floors and a decorative marble fireplace and you just broke the Internet.
Lower Fifth Avenue, aka The Gold Coast, is so Pinteresting it hurts. I love strolling through these streets, craning my neck to catch a glimpse inside these gorgeous brownstones. Here you’ll find some of the most charming architecture in New York City. It’s Pre-War paradise.
What do you get when you mix flamingo wallpaper and rosé on tap? Claudette. You’re welcome! Tip: @Claudette_NYC Happy Hour will have you saying “Yes Way Rosé” in a very real way.
@PippinVintage, is a teeny, jewel-box of a store selling heirloom worthy baubles at surprisingly affordable prices. Tucked away down a narrow alley is their home store, @PippinVintageHome, housed inside a gingerbread cottage in the middle of NYC. If the Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe lost her lease, she’d move here.
@havenskitchen is a cooking school, coffee bar and gourmet pantry shop all housed in an adorable restored carriage house. The cooking classes are delightful, but I like their supper club series; guest chefs throw an intimate dinner party in the upstairs event space, complete with cocktails in the cozy parlor.
@analoguenyc feels like the kind of place Don Draper would spend a few hours; the vibe here is masculine meets clubby with low lighting, cognac leather banquets and most nights, live jazz. With a dozen cocktails and a hefty whiskey selection, it’s the perfect place for a neighborhood nightcap.
