When Suzanne Somers first set eyes on this impressive Palm Springs compound alongside husband Alan Hamel in 1977, she instantly fell in love. Countless iconic parties, a few renovations, and 40+ years later, the couple is finally ready to part ways with their beloved 5-villa estate—for a price that will likely reflect the sentimental value. Per People, the actress is auctioning off the property on January 31 with “no reserve”, meaning there is no minimum amount it can sell for. Though if its previous listing price of $14.5 million is any indication, bidders will likely have to bring their A-game to the auction, which is being held by Concierge Auctions in cooperation with Scott Lyle of Douglas Elliman Real Estate.
Between the main house and guest villas there are eight bedrooms and 11 bathrooms, though not all are original. Somers has taken on quite a few projects over the years, renovating and expanding the main house, adding guest houses, updating the pool, and incorporating a rock-carved amphitheater. A separate "caretaker's home" offers two extra bedrooms and bathrooms.
In the dining room (which happens to be Somers' favorite room), a stunning authentic Parisian chandelier looms above the antique-style dining table and chairs. Although not original to the house, the addition of this grand dining room perfectly blends in with the rest of the opulent property.
With space for guests in abundance, the Cali compound is not unlike a resort itself. One guest sleeping area features tons of natural stonework and glass walls, giving it a cozy cabin vibe.
The bathrooms also feature spa-like amenities with multiple clawfoot soaking tubs. We love the French feel brought in by a chandelier affixed to exposed wooden beams in this one.
Another guest bathroom is sounded by more natural rock and rustic wood cabinetry. The rock sink basin draws on the home's mountainous surroundings.
While the French country-meets-rustic motif is prevalent in every part of the vast residence, each of the chic guest quarters has its own unique character. We love this one in particular, which is bright and airy with antique details.
An updated pool situated directly in the mountainside is just one of 10 (yes, 10) outdoor features on the property. Somers' estate also boasts an organic garden, meditation garden, rock shower, and outdoor tub—among other amenities—for the ultimate indoor/outdoor lifestyle.
Access to the numerous outdoor decks and entertainment pavilions comes from winding stone pathways and a funicular tram that takes guests to the main residence. The home's many terraces are perfect for hosting and entertaining, providing awe-inspring views of the property and surrounding area.
Want to see who the next owner of this palatial property will be? The auction begins at the end of the month, and something tells us it won't be on the market long. Let the bidding begin!
