Marimekko is ready for warmer weather. After releasing a buzzy spring collection with IKEA, the Finnish design house is now teaming up with West Elm for summer. The resulting collaboration brings us a masterfully designed lineup of comfortable outdoor staples infused with the brand’s big, colorful energy.
Available to shop starting today, Marimekko’s second limited-edition run with the modern furnishings retailer is aptly timed. Aimed to promote outdoor lounging, Marimekko reimagined a few archival prints you may recognize from the ’60s and ’70s; think: patio and pool accessories adorned in the iconic Primavera and Kaivo patterns. There are stylish slingback chairs, punchy UV-resistant patio umbrellas, and coir-fiber doormats starting at just $30. It’s the sort of collection that encourages looking good while lazing around—something we can get behind.
Although intended for the outside, the collection is also incredibly transitional. Take the coin-shaped floor cushions, for example, with polished details such as piping and a tufted center that hold their own next to an indoor sofa. (Plus painted calendulas is an easier pattern to mix and match with than, say, palm trees or parrots.) Vibrant throw pillows are stuffed with 100% recycled polyester sourced from plastic bottles, and the armchair and sofa’s warm wood frame and water-resistant upholstered seat could easily be mistaken for living room furniture. And that iconic beanbag chair? A playroom-worthy anchor piece that’s both durable—the shell is also made from recycled polyester—and design forward.
Because the collection is limited edition—and cute and comfortable outdoor staples are hard to come by—we imagine styles won’t stay in stock for long. Not to mention, summer is just about here.
