We could say that red is having a moment, but that wouldn’t be the full truth. Bringing the fiery pop of color into a room has been a tried-and-true way to summon a bit of personality. We were reminded of this design fact while perusing the new pieces from Urban Outfitters. The 60-item fall drop is a treasure trove of red furniture and decor.
Working with such a bold hue may feel intimidating, but consider the “unexpected red” theory, which comes from Brooklyn-based designer Taylor Migliazzo Simon. In a TikTok video from January that was viewed more than 1 million times, she breaks down the idea that a room immediately looks better if you add something red—it can be big or small, and it doesn’t even have to match the room’s vibe. If you want to put the theory to the test, here are some of our favorite picks from Urban Outfitters’s red-heavy fall collection.
Parker Nightstand
This little table looks like it stepped right out of an early-2000s video game in the best way possible. The drawer is always a nice touch, but our favorite element is the chunky legs.
Casper Side Table
If you lean toward softer edges, let this Tic Tac–esque design serve as your next nightstand. What it lacks in closed storage it makes up for in its adorable silhouette.
Aria Room Divider Screen
By definition, room dividers are meant to split up spaces. This one is special because it sets up a frame for whatever sits on the other side. You could even use it on its own to spice up an empty wall behind a sofa in lieu of art.
Mason Storage Cabinet
You’ve likely seen this storage staple before—it’s a classic from the brand, and this new color option is downright refreshing. If you really want to go all in, fill it with your most fun red tchotchkes and books.
Breezy Cotton Percale Sheet Set
You know we can’t resist supersoft bedding. Just imagine how fun this would be in an ultra-minimalist bedroom where the walls are painted a soft shade of cream or cool gray.
Casper Bookshelf
This is the older sibling of the side table of the same name. The staggered supports offer a really unexpected splash of depth, which will make anything you house on it appear like they’re in an open shadow box of sorts.
