Schoolhouse has always had a knack for designing well-made products that bring a vintage Americana vibe to a contemporary space, whether that’s richly hued light fixtures or heirloom-worthy embroidered quilts. The brand’s latest arrivals don’t disappoint. Taking cues from a variety of eras, the fall collection points to such disparate inspiration as Victorian board games to folk floral patterns to Bauhaus architecture. Somehow it all works, connected by inviting colors, organic shapes, and natural materials. Here are our top picks from the drop.
Lighting
The Fran collection nods to San Francisco’s Victorian architecture, adorned with a scalloped edge and available in several sizes and shades. The Ashfield, made of ash and birch, has a turned wood look that calls to mind Shaker styles.
Bed and Bath
When we found out that the design on Schoolhouse’s Kaleidoscope duvet was inspired by turn-of-the-century board games, we were immediately into it. The soft cotton matelassé adds to the deal. Similarly, the pattern on the brand’s latest Pendleton blanket is inspired by the same thing. We’re betting that the Tulbend quilt will be this season’s hit (akin to the Stillwater) and the seersucker shower curtain will hang in many of your homes shortly.
Rugs
Rug borders are getting cooler and cooler these days. Inspired by folk florals, the Flora wool-cotton flat-weave is durable and comes in two colorways. Guests will think you sourced it from your favorite antiques store. Meanwhile, the 100% wool Gambit design is subtle and tonal in all the right ways.
Furniture
Schoolhouse dipped into its archives to reintroduce the Owen table in a variety of sizes and hues; we like the bistro and cocktail sizing and the shell white, but it comes in a serene blue and earthy green, too. The integrated pulls on the Darrow sideboard lend a fresh look (and lots of functionality) to the wood piece; it’s inspired by Shaker furniture and crafted from solid oak and oak veneer. Talk about staying power.
Decor
There are several new hardware designs to pull from in the fall drop, and we’re partial to the Remy—it sports a little heft and a lot of personality in a variety of colors and metals (the lacquer finish lends a ’70s look). The sky blue Tempo block-print pillow comes in both throw and lumbar sizing and is made from 100% cotton. We just think it’s groovy.
