If the era of squiggles, wiggles, and curves has you dizzy, there’s good news on the design horizon: Grids, stripes, and right angles are making a comeback. One look at Design Within Reach’s spring collection proves it.
Sure, there are still some semicircles, but many of our favorite finds make use of squares and hard right turns—including the brand-new storage bed of our dreams. And the best news of all? The store is in the midst of its semiannual sale, with 20 percent off most items. Here’s what we have our eye on.
Wiley Quilt
Textile designer Meg Callahan took gray stripes and added a square of tan ones to make an eye-catching quilt made of a cotton-linen blend that’s perfect for both chilly winter and cool summer nights. Good news if neutrals aren’t your thing: There’s a blue version, too.
Kate Shams
These quilted shams have an elongated diamond shape that’s gridlike but a little more elegant. And in the pale blue shade, it’s like sleeping on a cloud.
Line Bed
The name says it all: The wood slats that make up the headboard of this Nathan Yong bed are technically stripes, too. The geometric look is cool, clean, crisp, and the perfect companion to rumpled linen sheets.
Walker Flat-Weave Cotton Rug
The grid on Callahan’s floor covering is a crisscross of color in the best way possible. And even though this flat-weave makes a statement on its own, we’d love to see it layered over a jute.
Casey Hand-Tufted Wool Rug
The delightfully askew grid on this durable handwoven rug keeps things interesting, even if everything else in your home is a neutral. We love it in a kid’s playroom or as the main event in a dining space.
Morrison Desk
The perpendicular shape of this wood desk may seem simple, but the green marble top and brass knobs add a slight sparkle factor. And while the shape is mostly rectangular, we love the rounded corners that match the circular legs.
USM Bed
Only available for local delivery at DWR’s newly opened San Francisco store, this USM launch is the most exciting we’ve seen in years. Not only is there built-in under-the-bed storage, but the headboard is a desk on its opposite side. It’s pricey at $10,045, but you’re getting two pieces in one, and the cost includes assembly by a USM technician. Chicest room divider ever—and not a curve in sight.
