Celestial style is coming in hot like a shooting star, but we’re betting it won’t flame out as quickly. The stars and moon offer an endless source of inspiration for designers, whether as dreamy motifs and patterns or abstract interpretations of the sun and zodiac signs. Noritake tapped designer Yabu Pushelberg to create the Hoshikage collection, which takes its namesake from the Japanese word for “starlight” and is marked by astral patterns. Misette just announced its forthcoming spring tabletop launch, titled the Celestial Collection, which takes cues from Surrealism and other 20th-century art movements. With these new designs, and so many recent styles debuting, from cushy rugs to minimalist pendant lights, we gathered everything that’s available to pick up now, plus a few of our favorites that have proved they have staying power.
Calico x Studio DB Supernova Wallpaper
In collaboration with architecture and interiors firm Studio DB, Calico Wallpaper recently released a line of wall coverings dubbed Supernova. Available in eight colorways, the whimsical pattern features original artwork and a subtle sheen. Rachel Cope, Calico’s creative director, recommends using it in a bedroom, a dining room, or a meditation or reading nook. “Larger-scale walls or ceilings can fully showcase the cosmic movement of the design, immersing the viewer in its beauty,” she adds. Her favorite colorway is the light green Supernal.
Backdrop x Xavier Donnelly Wallpaper
Creative director Xavier Donnelly’s cosmic scenes for Backdrop were given a Good Design Award this year, and the Luminaries and Ascendence papers are particularly celestial in style. The soft, tonal colors mix with entrancing motifs and evoke Donnelly’s travels through Italy.
Nordic Knots Celestial Rug
For hotelier Ash’s newest property, Shenandoah Mansions, in Richmond, Virginia, it has collaborated with Scandinavian textile company Nordic Knots on a hand-loomed rug with the same name. Inspired by an Algonquin legend in reference to ancient creation in the Shenandoah Valley, the piece draws from the stars and sky in its style.
Diptyque Étoile Candle
There’s something intriguing about naming a candle after a star. Diptyque’s Étoile scent leans on floral, velvety notes of rose, sandalwood, mimosa, and iris. The limited edition has a label crafted in felt and comes in a box designed by artist Lucy Sparrow.
Lee Broom Solstice Pendant Lamp
Lighting designer Lee Broom debuted his brass Solstice pendant lamp earlier this year, and it takes inspiration from Stonehenge and spiritual rituals concerning the cosmos. It’s his interpretation of mid-century–meets–midsummer, and each glass globe is a single piece that can be connected to others to create longer strands.
La DoubleJ Sunray Dessert Plates, Set of 4
La DoubleJ always brings a magical approach to its plate designs, and this set of dessert dishes is no different. Crafted from fine porcelain with hand-painted 18-karat-gold trim, the set calls to mind a warm springtime sun across Andalusia. They could be used for meals. Or dole them out as gifts one-by-one as a key or crystal landing pad.
Away Medium Luggage in Supernova Silver
The Supernova Silver and Galaxy Blue styles of Away’s medium luggage sport a glitter-injected hard shell, metallic leather handles, and glitter-injected hardware. The Carry-On in these limited-edition colors is already sold out, so you know this one will go quick, too.
Compartés Celestial Star Signs Chocolate Gift Box
A gift for the friend who is obsessed with astrology, Compartés’s Celestial Star Signs box includes all 12 signs emblazoned on chocolates filled with different flavors, from guava to cinnamon.
Nanimarquina Luna Rug
Whether it’s a little on the nose is for you to decide, but there’s something mystical about Nanimarquina’s Luna rug. The ’80s reedition warms up the browns and beiges and makes the whole thing a little larger, big enough for hallways or at the foot of a bed. We could see it in a space-obsessed teen’s room, too.
Sprezz Zodiac Glasses
The ever-creative design firm Charlap Hyman & Herrero and artist Pilar Almon teamed up with Sprezz on these handblown borosilicate zodiac glasses—ideal dinner-party conversation fodder.
Aerin Cosmo Extra-Large Chandelier
The elemental shapes of this chandelier, a part of the Cosmos series from Aerin, are inspired by the asymmetry of a 1930s abstract sculpture. It’s a restrained, elegant take on celestial style, calling to mind the Metafora coffee table from Massimo and Lella Vignelli.
