As you peruse Brigette Romanek’s just-launched Crate & Barrel collection, the interior designer wants you to take a big breath in…and let it out. Breathe in. Now breathe out. “That was really the inspiration and the goal—pieces that make you feel better; pieces that bring you a sense of calm, a sense of exhaling,” she says.

The L.A.-based designer, whose client roster ranges from Gwyneth Paltrow to Beyoncé, also drew on her love of vintage and past custom creations when dreaming up items for her first-ever collaboration with the brand. The line spans 54 pieces, and there’s no shortage of curvy seating or nods to California living. Ahead, shop the standouts from the drop.

The Bed You Never Have to Leave

The Montecito Extended Bed is an iteration of a piece Romanek worked on for a client back in the day. Her task? Build a bed that they could really hunker down in—hence the integrated sconces and super-plush, elongated headboard. “A lot of times, an overhead is sort of harsh when you really just want to get cozy and relax,” the designer says of adding lighting to her Crate & Barrel piece. “I also love that if you want to sit up and have a conversation, you’re supported by this beautiful fabric,” she adds. “It’s such a statement piece and one of those things that I cannot honestly wait to have.”

The Daybed That’ll Hold Your Books

One of her other favorites is easily the Sunset Daybed, mostly because it’s so versatile: one person can stretch out on it, but you could also comfortably sit two. Really, though, it’s all about what’s happening underneath the cushion. “I like to read and oftentimes I find myself going, ‘Where’s my book?’ So I put a shelf underneath to hold papers, books, a throw blanket…” says Romanek. It helps eliminate clutter if you’re in a smaller space, too.

The Personal Artwork

Romanek tasked friend and photographer EJ Camp with capturing coastlines that she could offer exclusively through Crate & Barrel. This one shows the tip of a prehistoric deposit off of Long Island. “Every single item was intentional and a part of Brigette’s vision that we didn’t compromise,” says Sebastian Bauer, the company’s vice president of product design.

The Lamp That’s Also a Sculpture

“I’m a big believer in wherever one’s eye lands, to try to make that beautiful, to have a point of view,” says Romanek. The Cubey Lamp accomplishes just that. The piece is technically a floor lamp, as its stack of linen cubes stand almost 34 inches high, but the designer loves the idea of placing it on a table, too. “You could flank a credenza with two of them. It can go in any corner on the floor. You could do anything with it,” she says.
