It hasn't even been one month since Pantone announced Ultra Violet as its 2018 Color of the Year, and the trendy hue is already making its way into the home—starting with the kitchen. The first brand to jump on the purple bandwagon? None other than Le Creuset. The French kitchenware company just launched a vibrant line of cookware (dubbed “Provence”) that closely resembles Pantone’s prediction for the year.
However, according to Refinery29, Le Creuset’s newest collection had little to do with Pantone and was instead inspired by the blooming lavender fields in Provence, France. The bold violet edge and softer center intend to replicate the movement of a real lavender field. While deal-hunters may not be thrilled by the pretty line’s pricey pieces—the flower-shaped cocotte will run you $199.96, and the brand's signature round dutch goes for $329.95—Le Creuset’s cast iron products prove to be a wise choice for aspiring chefs looking to build a cookware collection that will stand the test of time.
Famed for fearlessly embracing the color wheel, Le Creuset has several other intensely hued and dreamy ombre lines. Other collections we love for their bold hues—and ability to instantly warm up a wintry feast—include a fiery orange (“Flame”), a tropical blue (“Carribean”), and a sunny yellow (“Soleil”). And of course, we can’t forget about the millennial pink line (“Sugar Pink Matte”) that introduced a sense of whimsy to our kitchens this past fall with its dusty pink exterior.
With soft shades of purple like lilac and lavender expected to replace the ever-popular millennial pink once and for all in 2018, the Provence collection is an easy way to incorporate the new year's hottest hue into home decor. Daring design enthusiasts who want to incorporate this trendy color elsewhere will want to take a peek at our guide to decorating with violet.
But what if you're totally terrified of decorating with purple? You’re probably not alone. Thankfully, the kitchen is a simple and low-committal place to learn to love powerful colors—and there's no better place to start than with the color of the year.
As of right now, the Provence line is sold exclusively through Sur La Table. It will become available on lecreuset.com, Le Creuset stores, and other retailers that carry the brand in March.
