Attention, fellow Ikea hack devotees: The DIY manual of our dreams is about to hit the marketplace. Jules Yap, the founder of IkeaHackers.net, has written a book succinctly titled Ikea DIY Hacks. Published by Century, it will officially be available for purchase later this summer.
Following a similar premise as Yap’s hit website, the book will show how to repurpose several Ikea products into customized pieces of furniture and decor. Ikea DIY Hacks has ideas for every room in the house and will encourage readers to think outside the box when it comes to Ikea items.
“Step 1. Buy it at Ikea. Step 2. Open the box. Step 3. Throw away the instructions. Step 4. Have fun building your exciting new hack!” reads the book’s description.
Some of the innovative projects featured in the book include a children’s playhouse made out of the Kura bed and Trofast toy storage, and a cat condo constructed from the sleek and simple Lack table. Each DIY is accompanied with in-depth instructions and illustrations to make the assembly process a cinch.
According to Yap, the book has been years in the making. “I hope these hacks will inspire readers to see beyond the obvious when they go furniture shopping at Ikea,” she says. “They don’t have to settle for same-with-everyone mass produced pieces. Instead they can choose to hack it and create a one of a kind item.”
Yap, whose website reaches millions of Ikea and DIY enthusiasts alike, came up with IkeaHackers.net in 2006 has been sharing her hacks for the furniture brand ever since. Living by the belief that an Ikea product is merely a blank canvas, she’s a passionate advocate for the affordable and versatile furniture brand; her name, Jules, is even a pseudonym created in homage to the Jules chair. Now, she’ll be sharing that passion with the world in the form of a book.
While the book doesn’t officially come out until early August, it is available for pre-order at Barnes & Noble. Know any decor buffs with an upcoming summer birthday? We just found the perfect gift.
