how to layer colors and patterns in the bedroom
When there’s a lot going on (and lots to love),
follow these four decorating rules.
1. pick prints. Look for patterns with white backgrounds— not cream or beige.
2. combine colors. Start with a two-color scheme, then consider adding in a third. For example, a fresh touch of blue can complement a pink-and-brown pairing nicely.
3. ease in. Introduce patterns sparingly or with abandon, depending on the statement you want to make. A pair of pillowcases and a duvet cover will perk up the bed. Bring on shams and sheets, and the bedroom’s reborn.
4. vary scales. Dense graphics look great with airier designs, and bold stripes complement small florals.
