3. Create Toss, Save, and Give Away boxes.
Want to jumpstart a whole-house deep clean? Create three separate boxes that you’ll fill with things to toss, save, or give away. While actually completing this process might take a little while, you can always start small.
One great room to tackle first? Your bathroom! It’s small enough to be sorted through in a few hours, yet once it’s decluttered, you’ll feel the impact immediately.
More than arguably any other room in the house, your bathroom should leave you feeling fresh and clean. It’s hard to feel that way when you can’t see the counter for the perfume bottles, deodorant, toothpaste, makeup, hair tools, and more.
With your boxes in hand, start with your under-the-sink messes, and the items in your medicine cabinet. If any medicine is out of date, it goes immediately in the Discard box.
Depending on the medication, be sure to follow FDA guidelines
for removing it from your home.
You can also set aside that crusty, trial-sized bottle of toothpaste you got five years ago when you left the dentist, that outdated hair dryer with the hazardous, fraying cord, and anything else you haven’t used at all within the past year.
When you’re finished, safely trash the contents of your Discard box, put the Giveaway box in your car to donate to charity or share with friends, and put the Save items back in their proper place within your powder room.
Doesn’t that feel better? Now you’re ready to tackle the living room!
