When Australian product designer and interior stylist Sarah Ellison of Ellison Studios debuted the Float sofa in 2022, it was met with instant success. Inspired by ’70s conversation pits, the modular Float sports deep seating, rounded armrests, and horizontal channel tufting—a sumptuous style just begging to go viral. Since then, it has made appearances in the homes of Brother Vellies designer Aurora James and other tastemakers. It’s also been the subject of numerous well-staged Instagram posts and shopping-centric TikTok videos. Today, Ellison Studios is back with a new design, the Stack—at a lower price point.
The Stack sofa channels a similar aesthetic with a few unique design elements. For starters, it’s true to its name: Rectangular cushions with rounded edges stack upon one another for an appealing mod effect. Plus it’s cheaper—by $2,500. The Float retails for $8,495 (though it’s currently on sale for 20% off), while the Stack starts at $5,995.
For easy maintenance, the Stack’s cover is removable. It comes in an oversize 2.5- or 3.5-seat configuration with two additional ottoman sizes to create a modern sectional or a more standard sofa setup. The movable weighted arm cushions help to personalize the sofa; use them as centered pillows or sidelined armrests.
Founded in 2017, Ellison Studios is known for its down-to-earth Australian sensibility that manifests in a mix of vintage-inspired yet modern-leaning furniture, homewares, and decor in a range of bouclé fabrics, chrome finishes, and natural woods. The Stack sofa is available in the brand’s signature earthy hues and natural materials. Choose between the textured woven Hyams and the brushed woven Calabrita in creamy sable or a deep hazel.
