Drip Cakes Are Leading the Wedding Cake Trends, Here's Why

Drool-worthy is an understatement.

The hottest wedding dessert trend? According to Pinterest’s 2017 Wedding Report, “drip cakes are the new naked cakes” with searches up a whopping 437 percent in the last year. And it’s easy to see why.

“Drip cakes have such a wide appeal because they tap into our visceral senses,” says Andrea Boudewijn, chef and owner at Superfine Bakery. “Like seeing someone hot you want to date for the first time...visually they look sweet and accessible, but not so neat and clean that it's inaccessible—like you'd be afraid to cut into it.”

The best part? There’s a drip cake for every wedding theme. Read on to discover the fanciful confections that are (almost) too pretty to eat.

Liquid Gold
We're head over heels for this simply elegant sweet. White chocolate painted with edible metallic is a dead-ringer for liquid gold. And if the exterior wasn’t tempting enough, inside is vanilla cake with a trio of fillings: Oreo, hazelnut crunch, and vanilla bean.

Love’s Arrow
This chocolate caramel cake has a smooth semi-naked finish, giving it that natural organic feel. A caramel drip lends decadence. While a dusting of freeze dried blueberry powder gives it that oh-so-subtle pale lilac color. The finishing touch? An arrow topper.
