Lavender, orchid, eggplant. Fuchsia, pomegranate, plum. I saw a comment on Instagram recently: “Purple goes with everything in the plant world.” With interiors rife with flora and fruit and color these days, the hue is inevitably finding its way into every nook and cranny. Let’s explore a few of them.
On Board: Purple Persuasion
I’ve been noticing purple in all kinds of homes lately, whether loud—splashed on walls, drenching furniture—or soft, like a ceiling slicked in pale lilac. The more deeply pigmented shades cuddle up to another of-the-moment color, espresso, while the lighter tones certainly make their case for being neutrals. Here are the best ways I’ve seen the wide world of purple used lately.
Ten plays on purple:
- Bed Threads makes extremely soft sheets and table linens in luscious colors like rosewater, terracotta, and limoncello. Also present? Lavender.
- This Objects for Objects bench reminds me of a french fry, but maybe I’m just hungry.
- I love homes and products that juxtapose, or pull inspiration from, two different styles or time periods. Nordic Knots’s Climbing Vine rug does just that with its leafy Gustavian border against a contemporary lilac pop.
- I’ve been enamored by the British snug since I wrote this Cotswolds home tour for Curbed several years ago. I imagine this Graham & Brown wallpaper in the New England inn I’ll own in the future.
- I still haven’t moved on from one of Le Creuset’s latest hues, shallot. In fact, it’s one of my favorite colors the brand has covered its cookware in to date. Psst: Staub has a similar hue.

- Contemplate this for a minute: Could purple play a supporting role in a room? On Hay’s Mags sofa, this laid-back shade absolutely argues for that.
- A 2023 trip to Norway took me and my husband to Trondheim, where we encountered Røros Tweed everywhere; the local brand’s throws and cushions are made just two hours south of where we were visiting.
