Subway tile has been around forever. Chances are you’ve seen it somewhere today alone—the bathroom of your favorite cafe or maybe your own shower. It’s iconic, and for good reason. But even the most storied design elements need a refresh once in a while.
“What’s next?” has been on our minds for a while. A while back, we asked designers to weigh in on what they think the post-subway tile world looks like. And since then, there have been artful upgrades on the tried-and-true style, with Studio McGee’s fresh take being the latest one we can’t get enough of.

The new Ashton Meadows collection with Ann Sacks stars five different tiles available in five colors, from cool gray to oxblood, but it’s the glossy Scalloped Field Tile that has stolen our hearts. This one feels like the cool younger sister of the classic subway, thanks to its wavy edges. Ringing in at just under $15 per square foot, it’s an investment that is sure to make an impact.

Aside from the playful silhouette, this tile also puts whatever grout color (cobalt blue, anyone?) you decide to use in the spotlight. The ceramic tiles are suitable for indoor and outdoor use, so tub surrounds, ranges, accent walls, and fireplaces are all on the table. Just imagine hopping into a shower every morning that’s outfitted in the dark green beauties anchored with grout that’s a slightly darker shade. If that’s not a calming way to kick off a day, we’re not sure what is.
