Sandra Bullock has bought one. Anne Hathaway and Emma Stone chose it. Karen Elson, Drake, and Ellen Pompeo all cook on one. Even Nate Berkus and Jeremiah Brent couldn’t resist its charms. Yes, we’re talking about Lacanche and La Cornue ranges.

With their French pedigree, heavy metal handrails, elaborate trimwork, and shiny brass burners, they are the luxe kitchen upgrade that celebs clearly can’t get over. But it’s not just movie stars and musicians who are obsessed with the look. Homeowners want in on it, too—we’ve seen them in Sibella Court’s Australian beach house, a nautical Seattle renovation, and Lindye Galloway’s California Spanish Colonial. And in Charleston, Atlanta, and Chicago.

The appeal lies in the appliances’ ability to automatically make a kitchen look timeless and established, like it has been there all along even if the home in question is a new build.

But, look, we know they’re exorbitantly pricey, to the tune of $10,000 or more. There’s no way around it. So when our senior social media manager, Lindsey DeSimone, openly began pining for more budget-friendly options in the same vein, we figured she wasn’t alone.

“If I have to cook, I want to do it looking at something that makes me happy,” she says, bemoaning her small kitchen’s unappealing stove. “I’m not a big stainless steel person. Whenever I see a Lacanche or La Cornue oven in a home tour, I covet it. If an oven is inevitably going to be a focal point in my tiny kitchen, I want that warm yet elegant, old-world look.”
