We have a long-documented love for beautiful tile, particularly when it’s primed for personalization. Today is a great day to be such tile aficionados, because design firm Zio & Sons just dropped the coolest new collection in collaboration with Clé Tile. And the line, a celebration of the finishes found in old-world interiors,  is made for mixing and matching.

Zio Zellige is a twist on Clé’s signature terracotta tile. Featuring four of the brand’s timeless neutrals but in a variety of new shapes and sizes, the collection can be rearranged into an incredible 16 different combinations. And the opportunities for customization don’t stop there.  The pieces work great on the floor, where they resemble traditional Federation tiles, but that’s just one of their many applications.

In his home–turned–creative studio, This Old Hudson, Zio & Sons CEO Anthony D’Argenzio used the tiles for a kitchen backsplash. He’s also created a two-tone bathroom wall with a mix of shiplap and the tiles, as well as decked out a stove hood with the trim pieces. “The black and white is so classic, and the natural tile adds a sense of soul and texture,” he says.

Whichever you choose, the tiles’ subdued hues and weathered texture are sure to infuse a bit of vintage spirit into your space—even if that space happens to be a fourth-floor walk-up with zero architectural intrigue.
