Knowing where to find the best furniture and decor is a skill that can take months (if not years) to refine. So, in the spirit of sharing, we’ve launched Highlight Reel, where our editors open up about their favorite sources for everything from affordable furniture to lighting, pottery, kitchenware, and more. Next up: Vintage decor.
There are two types of people in this world: Those who love shopping for vintage items and those who don’t. Yet, somehow, I fall squarely in the middle. Though I could spend an entire day browsing antique stores when traveling, I’m much less tempted to thrift in large bazaars or flea markets
That’s the thing with vintage shopping: Not all vintage shops are made the same, and there is the right vintage shop for just about anyone out there. In order to be successful in your thrifting, you need to know exactly what you’re looking for (and where to look). Otherwise, the hunt for the perfect vintage rug or mid-century Italian chair can quickly feel overwhelming or downright disenchanting.
The good news is that once you know the basics, there are endless shops and stores dedicated to every quirky vintage taste out there: one specializing in Japanese ceramics, and another focusing on reputable Art Deco furniture. To kick-start your next thrifting adventure, we asked the Domino editorial team to share their favorite vintage stores, from Instagram-only shops to reputable auction houses and local Brooklyn spots. If you’re not Manhattan-based, fear not, as they all sell online too.

Casa Shop: “I love Casa Shop, but you have to act fast; everything it posts is sold within minutes (I’d recommend checking out @casashoprare if you want to splurge). I also love Kindred Black for beautiful vintage books, jewelry, and tabletop pieces scattered in with new offerings, like the perfect hemp T-shirt (everything is eco-minded), Tihngs for little oddities and amazing wood sculpture from Eric Oglander, and Lichen—everyone is abuzz about this NY-based shop (it sells online too).
Jessica Romm, editor in chief
Monc XIII: “I love Monc XIII, Eneby Home, and the Marché Aux Puces in Paris. There’s also this amazing shop I just discovered in Vegas called Patina.”

Adaptations: “I wrote an entire article on the art of shopping on Instagram for vintage home finds, but Adaptations was the first store that really grabbed my attention. My coffee table is from there (in addition to a few accessories) and the pieces it finds and sells are always inspiring.”
Gabrielle Savoie, senior home editor
Chairish: “An antique dealer once told me never to buy in galleries or antique shops. Instead, he relies on auctions and estate sales. Since then, I’ve started scouring for vintage goods on Live Auctioneers and setting alerts for items I’d love to find at a fraction of the price. I also find that Chairish is a great online resource for beautiful vintage finds that you can’t necessarily find on auction sites. In NYC, I often turn to Coming Soon, which always has a perfectly curated selection of vintage goods.”

Object Limited: “Object Limited is a new amazing source for vintage—with IRL bazaars and an app to source from vintage dealers across the country. The platform is super easy to use and the finds are amazing.”

Jinxed: “I love shopping local when I’m home in Philadelphia. While there are so many great antique spots out toward the country, I’m a sucker for Jinxed. It has four spots across the city, but I love keeping up with its latest finds on Instagram. All you have to do is call to buy if you like what’s on your feed.”

1stdibs: “You can’t look past 1stdibs, an online marketplace selling antique and modern finds from dealers around the world. Lara Bohinc’s Orbit Chair is on my wish list.”

Dobbins St. Co-Op: “Dobbin St. Co-Op has a high turnaround, and that means it provides near-endless inspiration. This Brooklyn store curates an eclectic mix of furniture and home goods, with a heavy emphasis on ’60s and ’70s maximalist style, which speaks to me personally. Its inventory is fresh and exciting, with affordable prices that make investing in furniture you’ll love for years a no-brainer.”
Elly Leavitt, associate digital editor
SF Girl by Bay: “SF Girl by Bay’s shop is prime for anyone obsessed with French vintage (guilty). Sourced mainly from markets along the south of France, it’s full of one-of-a-kind pieces that’ll bring a sort of rustic charm to your space. Etsy is also a treasure trove of unique finds and probably the best place to track down that one finishing touch for your space, given the incredible assortment of shop owners and styles. A few of my favorite shops are Chase Vintage for a French country vibe, Horses for Courses for all the brass accent pieces you could ever need, The White Pepper for colorful retro finds, and Microscope Telescope for mid-century finds.”
