When Is the Best Time to Buy a Mattress?
Springtime
March, April, and May are all ideal months to buy a discounted mattress because that is typically when new items arrive in stores—brands will slash prices on their old inventory to make room.
Presidents’ Day Weekend
This holiday weekend is considered the first major mattress sale of the year. In 2022, we saw 20 percent discounts on Tuft & Needle beds and $500 savings on Tempur-Pedic mattresses. Other big-name brands that usually participate include Leesa, Avocado Green Mattress, Sealy, and Nolah.
Memorial Day Weekend
While you’re celebrating this holiday poolside, your future bed could be in the lineup of some of the biggest mattress sales. Look for deals from brands like Helix, Nest, Naturepedic, Saatva, and more, and don’t be surprised if you save up to $800 on your purchase.
Fourth of July
In between fireworks shows, pencil in some mattress-shopping time with brands like Venus Williams–approved Ghostbed, which is already offering 25 to 40 percent off its inventory for its annual Independence Day sale that runs through July 14. Serta, BeautyRest, and Tuft & Needle are also early birds with sales happening this month and next.
Labor Day Weekend
Come September, most of the major mattress companies, including Nectar, DreamCloudSleep, and Allswell, offer upwards of $200 off some of their most sought-after products.
Black Friday and Cyber Monday
Hands down, Black Friday sales reign supreme. Expect major retailers like Mattress Firm to corral all the discount seekers, but to avoid the holiday crowds, shop sitewide sales from favorites such as Floyd, Casper, and Essentia. Look out for 20 to 30 percent price reductions and bundles that come with free or discounted accessories such as sheets, pillows, and mattress pads.
Special Mention: Amazon Prime Day
Doorbuster deals are here for the taking on this annual two-day sales event for Amazon Prime members. Among our picks to shop: Purple, Amerisleep, Cocoon by Sealy, and Zinus. So far, we know the sale will be in mid-July, but Amazon hasn’t released a specific date yet.
Online vs. In-Store: Which One Is Better?
Rosie Osmun, certified sleep science coach and contributor to EachNight and Amerisleep, previously told us that one method isn’t necessarily more lucrative than the other. However, you can typically find lower prices online and get other perks like free in-home delivery and setup. In-store shopping does allow you to try out mattresses in person, but keep in mind that a quick lie-down test may not be the most accurate assessment of one’s comfort level. Instead, look for brands that offer in-home sleep trials (and don’t forget to get the deets on warranties and return policies).
The Secret to Finding Mattress Deals Year-Round
Download the apps from all the big retailers—Amazon, Wayfair, Bed Bath & Beyond, Overstock—and turn on alerts for sales and discounts. And don’t forget the coupons: Find them on sites like Rakuten, where you can also earn cash back on purchases, or Mattress Firm, which routinely posts coupons online. Already have your eye on a specific brand? Email sign-ups often come with a small discount.
