I recently traveled to Waco, Texas to attend a KILZ Master Class, hosted by HGTV’s Fixer Upper stars Chip and Joanna Gaines. That’s right, I got to meet Chip and Jo. We got priming and painting tips from Chip and Joanna announced a new Magnolia Home product—it was a dream come true. In the time span of our short, two-day trip, we managed to do a lot… But mostly just kept make “one last trip” to the Silos to soak up the Fixer Upper feeling. Keep reading to learn why Waco, Texas is so great and what it’s really like to meet Chip and Joanna.

The Silos Are Basically The Best Place Ever

The Silos are so much more than just Magnolia Market. There’s Silos Baking Co. (more on that later), a green space for playing lawn games (that are provided!), Magnolia Seed + Supply store, and food trucks. There’s even an open air barn for those days when shade is the only option in the hot Texas summers, freshly blooming flowers, and a swing set. In other words, it’s the perfect place for families—and the community as a whole—to spend quality time together. It is more or less the equivalent of a Disney World for decor driven adults who love food and the outdoors. When I was there, I felt happy.

You See The Real Chip and Jo On Television

Except, if you can imagine, they’re even better in person. Chip is totally goofy and personable and Joanna even more beautiful and gracious. Upon meeting them, it was clear they are genuine people who have found great success in a career they love. Speaking with both of them about their design philosophies (Chip hates trends, Joanna prefers texture over pattern) was inspiring to say the least. Spending a morning with the famed Chip and Jo definitely exceeded my expectations.

The Cupcakes Really Are That Delicious

There are bad cupcakes, good cupcakes, and then there are Magnolia Cupcakes. I indulged in a Red Velvet and regretted not purchasing a few more for the road. The bakery also sells other baked goods like cookies and breakfast pastries, the latter of which I sampled heavily. Bonus: The entire shop is impeccably decorated. See Exhibit A above.

No Matter Your Style, You Can Find Something At Magnolia Market

Though I consider my personal style more eclectic and less farmhouse, I found more than enough items that I desperately wanted to take home with me. The vases and kitchen accessories were my favorite categories to shop, but browsing the selection of thoughtful items that were identifiably Joanna’s signature style was equally as enticing. Also to note, there are some products that never go online, but instead straight to the store, so expect to find a different selection in the physical shop!

The Couple’s Lunch Spots Are No Joke

While in Waco, we experienced a small sampling of the couple’s go-to restaurants. Those we tried did not disappoint, which makes me even hungrier when watching them discuss what food they’re going to pick up. If you ever find yourself in Waco, make sure to try Vitek’s Famous Gut Pak and the popcorn sold outside the market!

After visiting Waco, Texas and experiencing just a peek into the very busy and inspiring lives of Chip and Joanna, I can confidently say they are the real deal. Don’t take my word for it, see for yourself!
