At first glance, you might assume beloved rockstar Tom Petty’s waterfront abode was sitting somewhere along Lake Como. And while the late singer-songwriter’s just-listed villa gives off serious Italian vibes, the 1999 Trentham Road property is located only an hour outside of Los Angeles, near Thousand Oaks. Currently on the market for $5.9 million, the star’s stone-clad Lake Sherwood retreat offers an unparalleled escape from the city.
While the surrounding Santa Monica mountains and serene waterscape below set the scene for a rejuvenating stay, the home’s interiors also lay the groundwork for a stress-free vacation.
Our favorite room in the home has to be the living room, where soaring vaulted ceilings and impressive stone walls (built from local fieldstone) make for an eye-catching spot to kickback come the weekend. Built in 1931, the 5,300-square-foot property still features a number of noteworthy decorative elements that recall its unique history—cue the fireplace of our dreams.
Bringing the California sunshine in, the “Free Fallin'” artist’s bright master bedroom serves as a cozy place to spend the night. Rich wood details add a warming touch to the space, while French doors connect the suite and a private sunlit balcony which overlooks the lake and dock below.
The cabin-esque master bathroom boasts all-wood walls, a dreamy stone tub, and sweeping views of the water, so homeowners can still feel totally immersed in nature as they clean up at the end of a long day outdoors.
While a waterfront haven for boaters, swimmers, and fishers alike, the much-missed artist’s villa-styled oasis also doubles as a music lover’s dream vacation home.
