It’s a tale as old as time: Teens are a mystery. Whether you’re related to one or you just want to get what they’re all about these days, a glimpse into how their minds work can be extremely helpful. Luckily, The Strategist just interviewed more than 100 teens on the things they really care about, from color to decor. Now you can get clued into the next generation’s favorite trends.

First things first: Millennial pink has had a good run, but ultimately, the teens are just a little more into “melodramatic purple,” a lavender shade named by The Cut’s Emilia Petrarca, after singer Lorde wore a dress that hue on the red carpet at the 2017 MTV VMAs. Still with me here? Millennial pink is, admittedly, still the second favorite color of the surveyed teens, with yellow and lime green coming in third and fourth place, respectively.

Other findings of note? String lights are their favorite decorative accent, largely because they make their bedrooms feel instantly cozy and calm. On a more minimalist note, the most recommended brand of the survey set is Muji, which is surprising until you realize that it’s a one-stop shop for many things teens love: notebooks, beauty products, and essential oils.

If you want to learn more about today’s teenagers, you can find the rest of the survey’s findings here—or you could also just download TikTok.
