I’ve got some great news and some good news. Let’s start with the good: Two of your favorite ingestible wellness brands are diving head first into beauty. The great news? Their brand new products are seriously going to make you glow.
We’re talking about Moon Juice and The Nue Co., both of which have just launched their first foray into topical skincare products, and both are dedicated entirely to the health and well-being of your skin.
Moon Juice, the cult-status ultra-wellness brand that brought you Brain and Sex Dust, has been dedicated to making your body look and feel better from the inside out. But with their first two skincare products, now available on their site and Sephora, they’ll also focus on beauty from the outside in. The Beauty Shroom Plumping Jelly Serum ($58) is mushroom and hyaluronic acid mix meant to enhance skin’s elasticity and reduce fine lines, apply morning and night for that bouncy, glowing skin, while the Beauty Shroom Vegan Collagen Protection ($58) is described as skincare you can drink, and can be added to any drink to help minimize fine lines and wrinkles.
But what the beauty world is really clamoring over is the not-yet released (launching in August) Beauty Shroom Exfoliating Acid Potion ($39). The powerful acid toner is comprised of a mix of acids (glycol, phytic, lactic, and salicylic) along with adaptogenic reishi mushrooms, to majorly improve pore size and the skin’s surface. It claims it can give you brighter, smoother, more even-looking skin by the morning. It’ll likely be one of the biggest launches in skincare this year, meant to mimic the results of the culty of cult status Biologique Recherche P50, but the clean, adaptogen version.
Moon Juice’s founder, Amanda Chantal Bacon, was inspired to start the line due to the lack of ingenuity in the clean market. “When I went out to find products that were efficacious, I couldn’t find anything clean that actually worked,” she says. “There were products that smelled great or felt beautiful, but I was intrigued—and also horrified—that I couldn’t find anything that was clean that could also make a difference in my skin.”
Bacon began testing out ingredients that were already prevalent in her popular adaptogen mixes, like silver ear mushrooms. “Their ability to transform skin really blew my mind. For example, the silver ear mushroom holds 500 times its weight in water. We selected this ingredient to be used in our Plumping Jelly for its incredible ability to keep skin hydrated and plump.”
For gut-health brand, The Nue Co., skincare has always been top of mind. The relationship between gut health and skin health tend to go hand-in-hand, so it’s only natural that starting today, The Nue Co. has verged into skincare with a powdered Vitamin C supplement applied topically to your face to boost collagen, fight sun damage, and brighten skin. You simply mix Topical – C ($75) with your existing morning serum or moisturizer and go about your day, while it fights fine lines and wrinkles.
Jules Miller, founder and CEO of The Nue Co., notes that this Vitamin C was born out of her desire for immediacy and efficacy. “It’s focused on delivering results, using natural ingredients your body will recognize instead of harsh chemicals and preservatives,” says Miller. “It’s a great product for someone who is in the early stages of aging and wants to take action to reduce fine lines and wrinkles and stimulate their skin’s own collagen production, without pumping it full of toxins.”
“I really like to think of Topical – C as the antidote for anyone who is impatient (like me) and wants to see results fast,” she says. “Within two weeks of using Topical – C in my hyaluronic acid, my skin looked brighter and clearer. So much so that I was getting compliments.”
And their independent studies can back up those compliments, too: 71 percent of the 100+ participants who have been trying out the topical Vitamin C over the past month reported brighter, firmer skin.
A good Vitamin C is hard to find. It’s a volatile ingredient that is famously difficult to make shelf-stable and high potency (it’s thought that a good majority of Vitamin C on the market loses its potency between manufacturing and hitting shelves). It’s taken The Nue Co.’s scientist and experts years to perfect a vitamin C that can remain potent and safe long after manufacturing. But in its highest potency, the vitamin can boost collagen, reduce fine lines, target sun damage, and majorly brighten skin.
What do you think? Are you excited to check out these brands foray into the beauty world?
