For Victoria Smith, the biggest design trend of the moment may just be the lack of one. “I definitely think [we’re] moving away from a cookie-cutter look and [toward] one that reflects personal tastes and style,” says Smith, who fans will recognize as the voice behind popular design blog SF Girl by Bay. “The movement is to invest in classic upholstered pieces that are your ‘staples,’ so to speak, and then build on those pieces over time.”

This design ethos is one reflected in her inaugural furniture collection, a collaboration with The Inside. Launching on January 31, the line speaks to a variety of styles. There are bohemian prints and contemporary colors. Some of the pieces feature cushy, traditional silhouettes, while others are cut in cleaner lines. It’s made for mixing, matching, and personalizing.

“I wanted a bohemian vibe but with a modern, fresh twist, pairing colors like indigo blue, pale pink, and mustard yellow with the intention that they’d look great paired together,” explains Smith. “For the prints and patterns, I was inspired by the idea of layering French ticking stripes, Japanese Katazome stencils, and even a touch of Moroccan textiles.”

With such an array of referenced styles, the collection is totally customizable. There are 12 colorways and a number of variations on the styles—for example, five different beds and six types of ottomans—so you can pick the exact vibe that’s right for you. The collab also includes decorative items like throw pillows and removable wallpaper.

Smith, whose online shop, Super Marché, is composed of cool vintage finds, wanted to keep versatility top of mind so that the pieces could mesh with customers’ preexisting collection of antiques. “I had an idea that these pieces should blend well with an eclectic vibe and also pair well with people’s existing family heirlooms and vintage treasures. I’m of a mind that a mix of new pieces with old is always a lot more interesting,” she says.

She’s practicing what she preaches: The mid-century bench in the “Doro Tusk” print is already planted at the foot of her bed. Smith styled it with white bed linens and a hand-dyed black crochet throw from her vintage shop to reflect the bench’s colors and accented the space with a jute rug and an oversize palm tree print. “The effect is one that’s calming but feels almost like I’ve stepped away on vacation to Spain or Morocco.”
