Inexpensive, easily accessible, and kid-friendly, rock painting is one seriously underrated activity. We took it upon ourselves to scheme up a few playful approaches to the trend that’s taking Pinterest by storm. Here’s what we came up with.
Stone Fruit & Veggies
Use flat-faced stones and gouache or acrylic paint to emulate your favorite fruits and veggies. We went with an avocado, tomato slice, strawberry, and pickle. Don’t be afraid to mix and match materials when it comes to building out the rocks. We repurposed mini palm leaves by hot glueing them to the stones, allowing them to double as the strawberry’s stem.
Board Games
Here, our painted rocks take on a much more functional role, in the form of a tic tac toe board. Designate a two-tone color finish for the stones, and map out a board using washi tape. Here’s to endless hours of entertainment for the little ones. This works just as well as checkers.
Succulents and Potted Greens
For those lacking a green thumb, consider this a must. Designate a few large and well-rounded stones to act as cacti. We spray-painted the rocks for a smooth finish and completed the look with speckled,
Once the paint dries, assemble the pieces in a pot or planter (we filled the bottom with brown stones) and top with a live floral for the final touch.
