We all know and love the instantly-recognizable Julius (the unofficial face of Paul Frank), and a new collaboration provides even more opportunity to bring the beloved monkey into your kids’ lives.
Paul Frank is collaborating with children’s home decor company The Land of Nod to create a whimsical collection that includes bedding, art, accessories, and even furniture. Launching in the next few months, the 30-piece collection will offer items ranging in price from $34 to $249.
Created with the idea of friendship in mind, Paul Frank—the founder of the iconic brand who launched the company in 1995 out of a garage—designed the line to reflect the importance of kids helping other kids. Using the character of Julius as a means by which to communicate this idea, Frank wrote stories about how Julius and his friends interact with and help each other. These anecdotes are woven into all the products in the decor range, through visual elements and little messages.
This collection marks Frank’s return to the brand, which he credits to the right timing. “I felt inspired and ready to embrace the chance to bring authenticity back to what I started 22 years ago,” says Frank.
While the decision to collaborate with the children’s decor company was due to the mutual love Frank and the Land of Nod’s Creative Director had for each other’s brands, the initial idea for the partnership came about in a slightly surprising way: It all started on Instagram, which Frank says is a great tool for connecting and inspiring creatives.
“The Land of Nod Creative Director found me on Instagram and messaged me about how she has been a longtime fan,” says Frank. “From there, we started sharing ideas and the brand collaboration naturally formed!”
By designing pieces that kids and adults alike would love, the two companies produced a line that’s modern and elevated while still being playful enough for little ones. While Frank finds it hard to pick a favorite, he says that a 3D wall art piece they created is definitely a top contender: “It was so fun to bring one of my favorite characters to life this way and I can’t wait for you to see it soon,” he says of the product.
The Land of Nod collaboration is the one of many upcoming projects that will feature Paul Frank’s iconic designs. Since partnering with Rachel Zoe in April 2017 for a capsule collection that launched exclusively on Gilt.com, Frank says the brand has aimed to produce a series of retail partnerships that are in line with the ethos of Paul Frank.
“With the Paul Frank brand, we will continue to build offerings for our iconic characters while taking a fun, elevated approach to collaborations,” says Frank. “Stay tuned for when I can reveal more.”
