This may sound like the beginning to a new Dr. Seuss book, but what Susan McLeary at PassionflowerMade creates with her living succulent jewelry is truly quite beautiful…and surprisingly more practical than you think!
Each piece is made by hand in Ann Arbor, Michigan with plants sourced from a local, family owned greenhouse and jewelry bases from other small businesses. The pieces are meant for special occasions, but if treated with gentle care the jewelry is intended to be worn for two to four weeks until the plants grows off. Once that happens you can transfer the succulent into a planter and continue wearing the base as jewelry. Kind of amazing right?
Susan’s designs have us brimming with ideas for these pieces. A gorgeous outdoor countryside wedding, with groomsmen all sporting one of her perfect boutonnières; bridesmaids each with a beautiful cuff or ring holding their bouquets, and a gorgeous whimsical crown styled into the back of the bride’s hair. Swoon.
