“I believe a home should tell the story of the people who live there,” says Paloma Contreras, interior designer and founder of the blog La Dolce Vita. “The rooms of your house should be part of a consistent narrative.”

“You need a splash of color in every room to keep things interesting,” says Contreras. “But by creating a timeless, neutral background, you give yourself the flexibility to try new things without having to start over.”

Throughout, Contreras added bursts of vivid pattern, such as the bedroom’s leopard-print throw pillows and the dining area’s orange Flor rug. “Although the house isn’t architecturally distinguished,” says Contreras, “it’s proof that with vision and personality, even the blandest space can be transformed into something beautiful.”
