Let anyone loose in a Target and what ends up in their cart is always a toss-up. We’re just as likely to leave the store with the things on our shopping list as we are with a bagful of paper towels, deodorant, three packages of chocolate chip cookies, and an impulse-purchased yoga mat. The store is like Narnia; it can happen to anyone. Nate Berkus is a fellow Targetphile—no surprise, given he has his own decor line collaboration with the brand—so we asked him what he would do with $50.
His answer is nothing if not practical. “I would buy diapers,” he jokes. “And I would buy a couple sets of my towels—probably in white, though I’ve been buying the tan as well.”
The towels in question, part of the Project 62 + Nate Berkus line, are classic in every sense of the word. They’re no-fuss—the decorative details consist of just a ribbed border—made of a plush cotton, and available in a series of muted colors that go with any design scheme.
“I think that’s an everyday luxury—a set of new, fluffy, clean towels. That’s something everyone should have,” adds Berkus. Even if your own set isn’t anywhere near rags yet, it can’t hurt to have a couple backups, especially when Target has a ton of other solid options.
For subtle pattern…
Go with crimson diamond-printed stripes that will make your subway-tiled space just a tiny bit bolder.
For a retro touch…
This pink grid pattern is reminiscent of an ’80s bathroom, don’t you think? If you’re dealing with a similarly old-school room, embrace the charm with a complementary accent.
For cramped corners…
Play up elegance with this set of slate blue terry-cloth towels. If your powder room isn’t massive, the loops make for easy wall hanging so the small space doesn’t look cluttered.
For a splash of color…
Think of towels as the throw pillows of the bathroom. We love the vibrancy of this aubergine style, especially if you’ve also chosen a simpler pattern for your tilework—it’ll stand out all the more.
For monochrome sticklers…
Black and white look as contemporary as ever with a splash of gray in the mix.
For a seasonal update…
If you can’t help but do quarterly decor refreshes, we’ve found your fall-appropriate textile. With rich blue and terracotta colors and a comfy material, it’ll cozy up even the smallest of bathrooms. Just add a candle (or two).
