Would you sacrifice having all your debt paid off to live in your dream home? Fifty percent of Americans say yes, according to a new survey from Lending Tree. Though when it comes to the type of dream home they have their eye on, the answers are a little less concrete—one man’s trash is another’s treasure, as they say.
The most popular home exterior style, scoring 29 percent of the vote, is modern, winning over both millennials and Gen-Z. Given that the younger generations are eschewing McMansions for smaller, more streamlined models, it makes sense. On the other hand, baby boomers have a thing for ranch-style residences, with the single-floor model taking home (pun intended) 23 percent.
If you, too, spend your waking hours daydreaming about a perfect contemporary home (one day!), we have a few extra bits of inspiration to add to your mood board:
The Modern Farmhouse
Thanks to sustainable materials and massive windows, there are no over-the-top rustic vibes at this Malibu home. The pool doesn’t hurt either.
The Sunny Side
According to the report, neutral facades remain the most popular, but neutral doesn’t have to be boring. Spice up a white exterior with a simple pop of color on your front door, as with this L.A. space.
The Desert Dream
A 500-square-foot footprint doesn’t stop this tiny house from packing a punch. With its angular roof and blush pink siding—accented with a few cacti, naturally—it is peak modern Southwest style.
