Not all makeovers require renovations (the dust! the commotion! the disorder!). Pretty exhausting, right? In fact, some of the most magnificent transformations don’t require major disruption. And the results are significant. That’s exactly what happened for this family of four in Narragansett, Rhode Island. Get ready to see the first (of three!) makeovers to this beachfront home when Sunbrella and Kate Jackson take on their outdoor space.
Who:
Family of four. And this is a family of four with two adolescent girls.
Where:
A home overlooking the water in Narragansett, Rhode Island. Dreamy, right?
Why:
This family craved an outdoor space that suited their lifestyle, which involves dining, lounging, and entertaining. And they want to accomplish this with stylish and super durable products.
How:
Sunbrella steps in.
Space is a great problem to have. Especially when it’s outdoor space. That doesn’t mean it’s easy to design. It can be just as overwhelming and take just as much time and energy. Have some faith.
step 1: carve out a conversational spot
The best part about having an outdoor space: inviting company over. The best kind of host is one with lots of seating options. Wouldn’t you agree? An outdoor sectional with comfortable cushions, chaise lounges with decorative pillows, and easy to move around chairs are great for relaxing and taking in the seaside view.

step 2: define the dining space
A view of the water for breakfast, lunch, and dinner? Yes, please! The outdoor dining area is great for weekend hosting or weeknight meals with the family. Jackson chose a dining table that she could pair with a bench and director’s chairs for a casual and inviting touch.

step 3: create a lounging area
Every outdoor area needs a place you can sneak off to for reading, relaxing, or just chilling. Hello, alone time. When it comes to outdoor spaces, it’s key to distinguish zones (just like inside the home), but important to tie everything together with coordinating decorative pieces. Bring on the pillows that can mix and and match with ease.
