If we could start each day by curling up in a cozy breakfast nook—no emailing, just coffee—we would. The thing is a) life gets in the way and b) installing a built-in kitchen banquette is expensive. The design plans, construction, and custom upholstery add up fast. We thought our dreams of ever experiencing this early morning luxury were toast, but then we learned about Mandy Moore’s office hack and realized we already have everything we need to DIY our own booth.

“I was planning to make a custom banquette, but then I found the pink sofa,” Moore’s designer, Sarah Sherman Samuel, revealed in a blog post. Sherman Samuel, who oversaw the This Is Us star’s LA mid-century remodel last year, began working on Moore’s Paramount workspace earlier this summer. If you’ve been watching the designer’s Instagram stories, you may have spotted the arrangement she’s talking about a few weeks back, when she gave an initial sneak peek of the space.“I just removed the legs and built up the base a few inches higher to create a cozy workspace or spot for Mandy to eat lunch,” she continued.

The blush couch in question is the Vally Sofa from Jonathan Adler’s Now House collection for Amazon, but you could use any sofa or loveseat. Simply elevate the piece of furniture on sturdy 2x4s so it’s desk-chair height and pair it with a bistro table—read on for a couple more pairing ideas. We’re off to raid our living rooms.
