Kelly Wearstler hardly needs an introduction, but we’re going to give her one anyway. Designer–turned–lifestyle brand connoisseur, Wearstler is, in the most straightforward of terms, a force of nature. Putting her spin on everything from furniture and interiors to textiles and wallpapers, the design dynamo defines a luxe, layered style all her own (she’s described it as both a mixology and an alchemy) and inspires others to do the same.
With two new Proper Hotel projects in the pipeline, as well as a new book coming out on October 1, Wearstler’s brand is hardly slowing down. An endless source of inspiration around the office, it’s safe to say she is one of team Domino’s biggest design crushes, making her the perfect person to tap for, well, everything. Here, we asked Wearstler to share the 10 things that make her happy, from the new artists she’s wild about to the facial mist she tucks into her day bag. And not surprisingly, her picks are as chic, fun, and unexpected as she is.
The Statement Piece
“German jewelry designer Iris Bodemer crafts these insanely cool, wearable sculptures with mixed metals that are truly individual works of art.”
The On-the-Go Suitcase
“Travel is a huge source of design inspiration for me, and I never leave home without my Rimowa luggage. The protective hard-body shell is super-lightweight.”
The Standout Phone Case
“My personalized cell phone case lets me know exactly which in the sea of iPhones at the studio is mine.”
The Restorative Spritz
“I keep a bottle of this refreshing facial mist on my desk and use it at least three to five times a day. I love that all of May’s products are completely natural.”
The Trippy Fixture
“This artful sconce creates playful reflections with the light that are mesmerizing. I’ve bought several for my studio and home.”
The Can’t-Go-Wrong Cookware
“I always specify Le Creuset to my clients. The brand has a variety of beautiful colors to choose from.”
The Cozy Reading Nook
“One of my favorite spaces within my newest hotel project, Santa Monica Proper, is the Grotto, an intimate library cove filled with rare and limited-edition books. We layered in vintage and contemporary furniture and art to give it a sophisticated seaside sensibility.”
The Caffeine Staple
“For my triple macchiato fix, the Linea Mini is simple to use and brews the perfect shot, shot, shot every time.”
The Lightbulb Moment
“Discovering new artists is so creatively energizing. One recent piece that I want to buy for myself is this incredible lamp by Katie Stout.”
The Celebratory Drink
“True luxury in a bottle. It elevates the everyday to a celebration.”
