When celeb hairstylist Jen Atkin wanted to redo her Hollywood home, she had one thing in mind: to create a space that was casual, yet polished. So, she turned to Matt Consort, creative director and co-founder of Consort Design, and affordable modern furniture site AllModern.com to help her revamp her space. Consort says, “I believe in creating casual, unfussy interiors that people actually want to live in. I work really closely with our clients to get inside their heads and figure out their style point of view, so I can bring that vision to life.”
Atkin and her husband wanted the space to feel calming and relaxing, especially given their busy work schedules. “Our schedules are so hectic that we cherish any opportunity to relax. And with all of the travel, we always love coming home,” she says.
To create that stunning sanctuary, Consort focused on soft whites and light, calming colors. The bedroom, for instance, includes muted grey carpeting ($45.99), plush pillows ($52.99), and cozy throws ($157.99). The couple says of their favorite room, “Our bedroom is heaven. From all of our traveling we’ve gotten used to the spoils and tricks of hotels, and our bedroom feels like a hotel bedroom. Our bed ($902) is a great mix of low and modern, without being too cold or hard.”
The living area boasts a similar aesthetic, with airy plants ($79.99), warm woven baskets ($60.99), metal and glass accent tables ($102.99), and an ivory and grey design. The soft white couch ($1,670) is perfect for lounging in, while the minimalist bookshelves add some personality to the space.
“A big part of making it feel so relaxing was the minimization of distractions, so we went with a very mellow palette of white and subdued neutrals, with small pops of black here and there. Inviting texture was also really important, and we were able to incorporate it with a really sumptuous, slubby linen on the sofa, and some more playful moments like lush sheepskin pillows ($69.99),” says Consort.
The dining area is therefore the perfect mix of inviting and casual, with the sleek chandelier ($434.99), warm hardwood table ($599.99), and floor-to-ceiling windows giving a sunny feel to the home. The woven chairs and inviting touches—like the soft white vase ($36.99) and gorgeous, pale art—adds to the pleasant nature.
But the real star of the show? The accessories—think unique wooden figurines ($85.99), lacquer boxes ($75.99), and rich serving trays ($112.99). Consort says, “As a photographer, Mike has a really great eye, and Jen is so bubbly and vivacious, that we relied on interesting vessels, trinkets, and dishes to communicate their personalities.” This prevents the home from being too stark, while still exuding the subtle elegance Atkin craved.
