Unless you happen to be seasoned in the art of entertaining, the holidays can be a stressful time to be around friends and family. From properly stocking the bar cart to plating the hors-d’oeuvres, it seems as though only the Martha Stewarts of the world can rest easy once November 1st rolls around. Lucky for us, this year, our favorite Swedish retailer is stepping in with a helping hand.
Designed to arm amateur party-throwers with the skills they need to host a momentous fête, on Saturday, November 10, Ikea will host a one-day-only event dedicated to mastering the art of the seasonal soiree. Dubbed “Make Room for Celebration,” from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., shoppers and Ikea family members can enjoy a slew of entertaining-centric workshops and in-store discounts aimed at giving customers a budget-friendly leg up on holiday hosting.
Although this one-day event isn’t the first of its kind for the Swedish retailer (earlier this year Ikea hosted an organization-focused event that inspired us to corral our clutter), our inner procrastinators are thanking the Ikea gods that this celebration comes just in time for Thanksgiving preparations.
As with most of the company’s special events, every shopper is able to enjoy a $25-off coupon toward their first $150 purchase (you can get yours here). This is a definite bonus for anyone on the lookout for larger items—like a sofa or headboard. To reap the real discounts, however, you’ll want to consider becoming an Ikea family member.
Upon arrival, the first 100 in-store Ikea family members will receive a free FORNUFT 20-piece flatware set (because, step one of feeding all your friends is having the proper tools to do it). Members can also take advantage of a handful of on-sale offerings—including up to 20% off HENRIKSDAL chairs, select sofa beds, and select bakeware, as well as 25% off their 365+ dinnerware set. Note: These sale specials actually kick off on October 31, so family members can get in on the discount action early.
Perhaps, what we love most about Ikea’s sale events, however, are the workshops. While the range of activities will vary by store (find out what’s happening at your local Ikea here), Ikea will be hosting four main workshops centered around creative holiday living.
Don’t know the proper technique for folding napkins? There’s a class for that. Want to know more about setting a dreamy winter tablescape? They’ll have pros on-hand to walk you through the steps to set the mood. There will also be a lesson on three different ways to get your Raskog Cart party-ready (this session also includes tips for organizing your wrapping paper!) as well as a kid-focused drawing table, so parents can shop and roam while their little ones get creative.
