WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  • 1 gallon of HGTV HOME™by   Sherwin-Williams INFINITY® interior paint in NEBULOUS WHITE (SW7063)
  • 1 quart of HGTV HOME™by    Sherwin-Williams INFINITY® interior paint in ALEUTIAN (SW6241)
  • 1 quart of HGTV HOME™by    Sherwin-Williams INFINITY® interior paint in ROMANCE (SW6323)
  • Painter’s tape
  • 3 medium paintbrushes (we used Purdy® XL™Elite™)
  • 3 paint rollers (we used Purdy® White Dove™roller cover with the Purdy® Revolution Frame)
  • 1 paint tray
  • 3 paint tray liners

STEP ONE: PREP YOUR SPACE

Clean your wall: Before you begin, make sure you wipe down the wall you are going to paint with a clean, damp cloth.

Tape the trim & lay your drop cloth: Tape off all edges that you don’t want to get paint on (trim, baseboard, molding, etc.) with painter’s tape. Make sure you lay down drop cloths to keep from getting any unwanted paint on your floors.

STEP TWO: TAPE + PAINT COLOR #2 (SECTION A.)

Fill your paint tray: Using a clean liner, fill with HGTV HOME™by Sherwin-Williams INFINITY® interior paint in NEBULOUS WHITE (SW7063).

Cut in the edges: Dip your clean, medium brush into the paint, coating the bristles. Run the brush along the outer edge of the tape that’s covering the trim, and working your way in onto the wall you are painting, about 3 inches, from all sides and edges in section a.

Roll it: Dip your roller into the paint tray and remove any excess. Roll the paint onto the wall, using the “w” technique in the general area of section a. Repeat this back and forth across the wall without lifting the roller, until this section of the wall is fully covered, recoating your roller with paint as needed. (Note: it’s ok if this base color runs into the other sections for now, we’ll cover it up later.)

Let it dry: Let NEBULOUS WHITE (SW7063) dry completely.

STEP THREE: TAPE + PAINT COLOR #2 (SECTION B.)

Stick it: Once section a. has dried completely, tape off the area that you will be painting with HGTV HOME™ by Sherwin-Williams INFINITY® interior paint in ROMANCE (SW6323) (section b.)

Fill your paint tray:  Using a clean liner, fill with ROMANCE (SW6323).

Cut in the edges: Dip your clean, medium brush into the paint, coating the bristles. Run the brush along the outer edge of the tape that’s covering the trim in section b., working your way in onto the wall you are painting, about 3 inches, from all sides and edges.

Roll it: Dip your roller into the paint tray and remove any excess. Roll the paint onto the wall, using the “w” technique. Repeat this back and forth across the wall without lifting the roller, until section b. is fully covered, recoating your roller with paint as needed.

Let it dry: Let ROMANCE (SW6323) dry completely.

STEP FOUR: TAPE + PAINT COLOR #3 (SECTION C.)

Stick it: Once section b. has dried completely, tape off the area that you will be painting with HGTV HOME™ by Sherwin-Williams INFINITY® interior paint in ALEUTIAN (SW6241) (section c.). The tape should be lined up with the edges of section a. and section b. to create a crisp line.

Fill your paint tray: Using a clean liner, fill with ALEUTIAN (SW6241).

Repeat this back and forth across the wall without lifting the roller, until section c. is fully covered, recoating your roller with paint as needed.

Let it dry: Let ALEUTIAN (SW6241) dry completely.

**Note that the amount of paint you will need will vary depending on the size of your wall. Consult your local Lowe’s paint department to decide the quantity you will need.

STEP TWO: DIVIDE YOUR WALL

Measure it: Using your tape measure, divide your blank wall into three equal sections—top, middle, and bottom.

Mark it: Using a pencil, mark off each section lightly. We’ll be using HGTV HOME™by Sherwin-Williams INFINITY® interior paint in ROMANCE (SW6323) in the top section, HGTV HOME™by Sherwin-Williams INFINITY® interior paint in RACHEL PINK (SW0026) in the middle section, and HGTV HOME™by Sherwin-Williams INFINITY® interior paint in KRYPTON (SW6247) in the bottom section. Use the pencil to write each color in its assigned space, as a reminder.

STEP THREE: PAINT THE MIDDLE

Fill your paint tray: Using a clean liner, fill a paint tray with RACHEL PINK (SW0026).

Roll it: Dip a clean roller into the paint tray and remove any excess. Roll the paint onto the middle section, using the “w” technique. Repeat this back and forth across the wall without lifting the roller. IMPORTANT: leave a 6″ gap of room between the edges of your paint in middle section & the line (line a.) that separates the middle section from the top section (gap a.). Then leave a 6″ gap of room between the edges of your paint in the middle section & the line (line b.) that separate the middle section from the bottom section (gap b.)

Brush it: Immediately, using a clean, dry wide brush held at a 45-degree angle, begin blending RACHEL PINK (SW0026) toward both lines (line a. & line b.) that separate the middle section from the top section and the middle section from the bottom section.

STEP FOUR: PAINT YOUR BOTTOM SECTIONFill your paint tray: Using a clean liner, fill a paint tray with KRYPTON (SW6247).Roll it: Dip a clean roller into the paint tray filled with KRYPTON (SW6247) and remove any excess. STEP SIX: MIX IT UP

Fill your paint tray: Using a clean liner, fill a paint tray with a 1:1 ratio of ROMANCE (SW6323) and RACHEL PINK (SW0026). This new hue you created will be used to paint the 6” gap (gap a.) between the top section and middle section.

Blend it: Immediately, take a clean, dry wide brush and, holding it at a 45-degree angle, quickly blend up from the edge of RACHEL PINK (SW0026) in the middle section, until you meet ROMANCE (SW6323) in the top section.

STEP SEVEN: MIX IT UP, AGAIN

Fill your paint tray: Using a clean liner, fill a paint tray with a 1:1 ratio of KRYPTON (SW6247) and RACHEL PINK (SW0026). This new hue you created will be used to paint the 6” gap (gap a.) between the top section and middle section.

Blend it: Immediately, take a clean, dry wide brush and, holding it at a 45-degree angle, quickly blend down from the edge of RACHEL PINK (SW0026) in the middle section, until you meet KRYPTON (SW6247) in the bottom section.
