Calling all Scandinavian design lovers: We’ve got big news.
HAY, the Copenhagen-based purveyor of Scandinavian-inspired furniture and decorative accessories is coming stateside and we can hardly contain ourselves.
The brand’s inaugural brick-and-mortar is set to open in Portland, Oregon, this November (!!) and it will feature over 3,400 square feet of prime space, housing essentials for every room of the home.
It’s safe to say that the Danish brand’s now iconic aesthetic has made its mark in the realm of modern living with its Scandi-chic disposition. But it’s not your average take on the highly sought after look. Rolf and Mette Hay, the founders of the brand, have extended their unique vision to the line’s offering by reinventing everyday staples with punchy colors and streamlined builds.
The shop, which will be situated in Portland’s Pearl District, will embody Hay’s signature vision, built on unexpected color pairings and natural materials. Aside from offering their typical slew of design-forward pieces, the open plan store will also feature in-store activations by local artists and vendors.
Can’t make it to Portland? Don’t you fret. HAY is also launching an online shop dedicated solely to their North American consumers. This means all the Scandinavian-approved pieces will be significantly easier to access—and that all your holiday shopping woes will instantly be cured.
The news of the brick-and-mortar comes on the heels of the second iteration of the brand’s collaboration with Sonos, which is comprised of a line of limited edition Sonos One speakers. The draw here being the trendy palette that elevates the series.
With music playing such an integral role in our lives, it’s not beyond the realm of reason to expect that the devices we use uphold more than just a functional element. Practicality can only go so far, especially when it comes to the design-minded, and there is nothing less desirable than having an oversized speaker stick out like a sore thumb amidst your carefully curated space.
Luckily, we can count on our design-loving friends to serve us up with a device that’s equal parts beauty and function. The HAY x Sonos speakers (which retail for $229) are available in a range of colors—Forest Green, Pale Yellow, Soft Pink, Light Grey and Vibrant Red—and the full collection will be available on November 5th, exclusively through Sonos, Hay, and the MoMA Design Store.
And while we certainly have our fingers crossed for another physical location opening, preferably on the east coast, we’ll happily settle for this. For now. In the meantime, we’ll be cultivating a wishlist of all the products we can’t wait to get our hands on.
HAY Portland will be located at 825 NW 13th Ave.
