Our days are punctuated by scouting new talent, attending market appointments, and scrolling Instagram in an effort to unearth the products, people, and news you actually need to know. Here’s what we Slacked one another about this week.
New Shop on the Block
Last Saturday’s morning bagel run was more exciting than most because it included a stroll through Ganni’s brand-new store location in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. And by stroll, I mean I couldn’t stop taking photos and trying on dresses. I have been following the Danish fashion brand for years and always admired its retail design, filled with sustainable displays like pedestals made of recycled water bottles and cardboard shelves set against cotton candy–hued paint colors. Upon opening its sixth U.S. store, the company commissioned Colombia-born, Brooklyn-based artist Didi Rojas to paint a mural on the facade and construct one of her classic shoe sculptures, rendering the brand’s beloved footwear. Whether you’re on a shopping mission or just passing by, I can guarantee you’ll leave feeling inspired. —Julia Stevens, associate style editor
Warm Glow
All of the things we love about a good interior sconce—the flattering all-around glow, their ability to resemble little wall sculptures—are present in Cerno’s new duo of ceramic fixtures, but—surprise!—they’re for outside. Artists Scott and Naomi Schoenherr crafted Creo and Dea out of unglazed terracotta, which will age just as beautifully as your patio planters. Install these before your next barbecue and you’re golden—literally. —Lindsey Mather, editorial director, home
Fresh Prints
I’ll never get tired of Baggu’s vibrant colors and playful prints. I can’t travel with my cobalt Cloud bag without getting stopped by strangers asking where it’s from. So when I heard that the fashion brand was venturing into home, launching a series of pillowcases and reversible bath towels, I immediately messaged my friends to let them know. I have my heart set on the Lavender Trippy Checker pillowcase set—it would add just the pop of color that my otherwise neutral bedscape needs. —Edith Rousselot, editorial intern
Order Up
Knife blocks, spice racks, and silverware trays can work wonders for your space—that is if they happen to fit your drawer to a T. Otherwise you’re dealing with flimsy dividers that end up making a bigger mess. That’s why Toko, a line of minimal organizers, is so genius: It’s modular. The components are meant to slide together (without any clips or screws) and tighten with a twist of your finger to match your drawer’s exact dimensions. —Lydia Geisel, associate home editor
Summer Spritz
As desperate as I am to have some serious glamour in my life—specifically the glamour of jetting off on a vacation in the Mediterranean—it’s just not in the cards for me this year (pandemic, toddler-mom life). Instead I’m surrounding myself with little luxuries, like the sample set from just-launched clean-fragrance brand Summer Hours. It comes with a mini version of each of the company’s debut scents—80°, Le Week End, New Wave, and Romanesque—which were created to capture the essence of flowers, fruit, vines, and woods that are at their peak in summer. Each time I spritz one on, I have a quick moment of escape where I’m transported to a warm, sun-dappled locale. Fun fact: A purchase of the sample set gives you a credit toward one of the 50ml bottles. I’m still debating which one I’ll go with—they’re all so good! —Cat Dash, contributing editor
Sun Shield
At the beginning of every summer, I’m always on the hunt for a sunscreen that feels light and moisturizing on my skin and actually works. Those things are usually at odds with clean ingredients, but this year I’ve found my new obsession: Bask Suncare. Its SPF-30 lotion is created with clean, sustainably sourced ingredients and totally free of parabens and sulfates, all while smelling like a throwback of Hawaiian Tropic and salty summer air. A bonus is that the packaging is the perfect hue of sun-faded yellow and looks good in my beach bag or holding the page of my next read. The company is also on a mission to give away 1 million bottles of sunscreen to those in need, so each purchase supports a greater purpose. —Jessica Romm Perez, editor at large
