Emily Weiss of Into The Gloss and Glossier
As Founder and CEO of online beauty bible Into the Gloss (and minted beauty line, Glossier !) it’s no secret that Emily Weiss has taken the beauty world by storm. The former Vogue assistant, dubbed millennial beauty guru, began Into The Gloss to create a more approachable dialogue for beauty and life. With an unfiltered aesthetic that’s both coveted and relatable, Weiss’ admirable work ethic and down-to-Earth persona translates seamlessly into the very essence of the brand. We caught up with Weiss at Glossier’s headquarters during their Summer Friday pop-up shop to talk beauty, art, and the importance of the ITG and Glossier community. Take a look.
WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
People. I’m inspired by our community of girls as well as the ones I work with. We’ve grown a lot in the past year, and it’s amazing to see how far we’ve come.
WHAT SETS YOU APART FROM OTHERS IN THE BEAUTY INDUSTRY?
We are real girls who are making beauty products for real girls. Girls who love to have honest conversations about beauty. We strive to identify people’s hopes, wants, and desires. We’re here to empower women, to help them feel proud of themselves. We believe in feeling free to be who you are, with an emphasis on individuality and personal style. Top shelf (an ITG series) is an example of that. We’re here to change the dialogue on beauty through the core of celebrating self expression.
FAVORITE PRODUCT FROM THE LINE? I love all of them. Going into the conception behind the brand, it was all about creating a line that served as the backbone to my beauty routine.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONAL STYLE?
Very minimalist and polished at the moment. I love neutral colors–black, nude, navy–in simple silhouettes. Everything I wear is relaxed, not fussy, but still pretty pulled together. I like to complement simple clothing pieces with really great nails and jewelry, and of course Glossier. Glossier is the foundation of my personal style.
WHAT IS THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU’VE EVER RECEIVED?
You have two ears and one mouth. ABL. Always be listening. I know what I don’t know, and the best way to learn is to surround yourself with people who inspire you and have something great to say.
WHICH ARTIST, PAST OR PRESENT, DO YOU MOST ADMIRE?
Urs Fischer.
ON THE ULTRA COOL ART INSTALLATION BY GRACE VILLAMIL I was at a restaurant on the Lower East Side, where I saw a similar installation by the same artist. I’ve been looking forward to this collaboration for the past year.
