Downtown Camper By Scandic, which made its debut earlier this month, is an inherently Swedish oasis in the heart of Stockholm. Think of it as the ultimate basecamp—only, it’s so much more than just a crash pad.

Conceptualized with the urban adventurer in mind, the property takes a community-oriented approach to… well, everything. From the lobby and guest rooms (of which there are 494) to the rooftop and restaurant, spaces are designed to inspire connection.

The aesthetic is modern, authentic, and down to earth. Natural materials—wood, cork, leather, and greenery—coupled with clean-lined furnishings and industrial elements, bring an outdoor attitude to the city center. Pops of color enliven the muted palette, creating an atmosphere that’s warm and welcoming.

“It’s a place for people who feel more comfortable in leisure clothes than suits, for anyone who prefers something fun and social over a run-of-the-mill stay,” says Erik Nissen Johansen, the founder of Swedish architectural firm Stylt Trampoli, and the creative mind behind the hip new hotel. “The experience is reminiscent of camping, but with a twist.”

One of the most unique aspects of the property is the co-living suites that accommodate up to 12 people. “Our guests prefer a social experience over a solitary one, so we created environments where they can host friends for dinner, revel in each other’s company, and still retire to their own bedrooms,“ explains Johansen.

Murphy bed-style bunks can be tucked away to maximize square footage for socializing. “This setup is perfect for families who may be traveling with kids or easygoing groups.”

The bathrooms are all about Swedish form and function—and the ones in the co-living suites are spacious enough for four people to use at once.

The resident restaurant, Campfire, is cozy and inviting, with a focus on flame-centric comfort food. “Diners get a thrill out of being able to roast marshmallows over real open-flame grills.”

The Nest is the rooftop wellness sanctuary, where guests are encouraged to take advantage of the many facilities and amenities, such as daily yoga classes. “All the furniture is waterproof, so they can relax immediately after using the heated outdoor pool, showers, and bird’s nest-shaped sauna made from locally sourced branches,” says Johansen.

The rooftop also boasts a gym and laid back lounge with cocktails (and mocktails!), as well as a health-focused bar menu—think salads, bowls, and soups. And, of course, you can’t beat the scenic views.

The cheerful and fun Camper Lounge is one of five meeting rooms, where guests can participate in interactive activities like cooking classes and wine tasting. Groups can also reserve the respective areas for events and gatherings.
