My current color crush …
persimmon/rust and emerald green with navy and a hint of gold.
The space I would move into tomorrow …
This changes quite literally day to day and coast to coast. But as of right now, in this moment, I am obsessed with Harlem. The historic Mount Morris district. And I would love a mess of a townhouse that hasn’t been touched in 40 years.
I learned
[about motherhood]
from
[Lesley Blume]
…
My dear friend, the writer, Lesley Blume owns her own professional pursuits as much as she owns motherhood. She never apologizes for either. She just owns being a mother and owns being a professional and does so with humor and wit and chicness. When I watch her in action, I remind myself that I do not need to apologize for being a working mother. Instead I am inspired to embrace it.
Song that best describes me
…
I don’t really have an answer for this. I will say that in this moment I love listening to Christine and the Queens. “Tilted” is great. I wouldn’t say that describes me though.
My go-to dish/drink to make when guests are coming in an hour …
bolognese with kamut fusilli.
Advice to my 2017 self …
Playing with my toddler reminds that we all still have a child within us, and I want to tap into that freedom, goofiness and spontaneity more.
My wish for women going forward …
That women stay resolved to make a difference and unite. That women get behind organizations like Planned Parenthood or whatever cause they are passionate about whether it is here or overseas. Our actions are meaningful domestically and also in front of a watchful international community. That they do not get lost in mourning or discouragement. The outcome of the election was a serious call to action. And I hope that women going forward will not become complacent or accepting of the outcome. We have to fight and stand up for what is right. And we need to set an example for the future. I also think women and men need to organize and ask of their city or community that they issue statements where the city will not cooperate in any detentions or raids, or registration or surveillance of Muslims and demand that cities make themselves safe zones for all immigrants, Muslims, LGBTQ people and women. It saddens me to no end to write that, but at this point I think we really need to get organized about what can be done to make the next four years acceptable. I also think women need to take a stand not only for their rights and for those of others but for our environment.
