On a recent trip to Paris with our style editor, Elaina Sullivan, a chance drive by the cool stationery shop Papier Tigre in Le Marais sparked the idea for one of our favorite stories in this issue, “The Kit,” which rounds up everything you need to make your desk ready for a new season. Next, a stream of Scandi-fueled inspiration on our Insta feeds landed us in Copenhagen to explore a city that’s constantly reinventing itself as a center for food, design, and art—and, with a fresh crop of shops and studios, pointing to a new direction in Nordic design.
This year’s Style Issue is all about the team that brought these stories together. We asked writers, stylists, photographers, and other contributors to report back from Paris, Milan, Tokyo, Los Angeles, and beyond. Our editors sought out the people and places we knew you would be obsessing over all year, just like us, including Refinery29’s
(page 156) and our cover girl,
of Brother Vellies (page 124).
Story ideas also grew from the way we like to cook, eat, and entertain, along with the restaurants we currently love. The always-stylish chef
of Café Henrie put together the most beautiful bowl recipes by a bevy of talented chefs, from Alissa Wagner of Dimes in New York to Kris Yenbamroong of Night+Market in Los Angeles. Nothing could be better than an unfussy, colorful dish to welcome fall.
And with a new season comes a refreshed magazine. For this issue, the domino team wanted to include more articles that not only inspire you with beautiful images, but also share how to get the look or re-create the project. So keep an eye out for some new additions, starting with Datebook (page 26), which has everything you need to add to your calendar this fall (Brimfield market is top of my list!).
It’s this spirit of discovery that drives everything we do at domino. Because a magazine, much like our homes, is a group of stories that we gather and create. We hope you enjoy reading them as much as we enjoyed making them.
Welcome to the Style Issue.
