At the hardware store, team Domino was inspired to create a few off-the-cuff Halloween costumes. Since it was so much fun (and we can’t resist a DIY opportunity) we decided to hit the hardware store again for another round of costume ideas you can make using nothing more than (affordable!) finds. Get inspired below:
Movie Theater Floor:
- Candy found via the checkout aisle and popcorn courtesy of the vending machines (both Lowes and Home Depot)
- Packing tape
Adhere the candy, wrappers, and bits of popcorn onto an all-black outfit using the packing tape. Easy as that!
Frida Kahlo:
- Red plastic picnic table cover (for the shawl)
- Brown felt strip (for the brow)
- Faux red roses
Tape or wire-wrap the faux roses onto an existing headband, tape on the felt strip, and wrap yourself up with the table cover per a shawl.
Stranger Things Wall:
- Poster board
- Brown paint (we used wood stain)
- Black paint for the alphabet
- Battery powered lights
- Paint brushes (large and small)
- Staples/tape to hold lights in place
One Nightstand:
One:
- Scrap pieces of plastic trim with electrical tape for outline
Nightstand:
- Cardboard box
- Electrical tape
- 2 paint rollers with gold tape
- Lampshade
Use the electric tape to outline the nightstand as well as the “one” figurine. Attach the paint rollers (wrapped with the gold tape) onto the piece of cardboard and allow it to double as the nightstand’s pulls.
An Actual Domino:
- Cardboard box
- Black trash bag
- White paper cut into circles
Wrap the cardboard box with the trash bag and tack on the white paper circles in the form of a domino.
Notebook Paper
- White jumpsuit or coveralls
- Red electrical tape
- Blue electrical tape
Use the red and blue electrical tape to outline the shape of a piece of paper. Pairs well with a Three Hole Punch!
That New Zodiac
- Black foam board
- Metallic sharpie
- White paint
- Twinkle lights
Rain Cloud:
- White plastic bags from your recycle bin
- Blue painters tape
- Duct tape (to adhere the bags to clothing)
Fill the trash bags with air and tie the ends to create faux balloons. Adhere them to your shirt and tack on blue duct tape to mimic rain!
