What do you get when you cross
with honeymoon and travel experts Mr & Mrs Smith? A healing bath ritual for any type of bride-to-be. We recently met up at the Riverhouse Suite at 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge to learn how to DIY four different restorative baths. Here, you can find out how to recreate each sensual soak to help you relieve stress, find focus, cure laziness, or calm your nerves.
Deborah Hanekamp aka Mama Medicine—a seeress with over sixteen years in the healing arts as an Initiated Amazonian Shaman, Reiki Master, and Yogini—believes deeply in the power of the restorative bath. “It’s the most magical self-healing ceremony,” she says.
When planning for your wedding, she says, “it’s important to stay connected to the practices and people you hold dear to your heart. Just because you’re about to become a couple, doesn’t mean you have to spend every waking moment with your partner. Love is called the “great mystery”—now more than ever it’s important to keep up with taking care of yourself and doing the things that make you happy. Your happiness will infuse your relationship with happiness.”
Last week she met us at the Riverhouse Suite at 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge and demonstrated four different restorative baths. We’ll be sharing how to DIY each sensual soak over the next few weeks.
First up: a heart-nourishing ritual bath for the anxious bride (or really, anyone who’s feeling a little high-strung) who needs to get her nerves in check STAT. “Checking in with your big beautiful heart is such a sweet way to prepare for a wedding,” she says. “This bath is designed to ensure that all your interactions during this momentous time come from a nourished, abundant, and heart-centered place.”
Here’s your step-by-step guide to getting grateful and grounded, spa-style.
Ingredients:
- Blue green protein by @moondeli
- Palo santo incense sticks
- Peonies and fresh basil
- Rose quartz, turquoise, and citrine crystals
- A few drops lavender, sandalwood, and geranium essential oil
- 1-2 cups epsom salt
Directions:
Fill a tub with warm water and add the epsom salt and a few scoops of the protein powder. Sprinkle the peony petals and fresh basil on top. Spark of some palo santo and bless your aura with the sacred smoke.
Step into the bath and dunk your head underwater to clear your negativity. Place rose quartz crystal on heart center, and say out loud, into the water and into your heart three times: “I believe in you.” Sit and soak in the powerful energy you’ve created.
