What do you get when you cross
with honeymoon and travel experts Mr & Mrs Smith? A healing bath ritual for any type of bride-to-be. We recently met up at the Riverhouse Suite at 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge to learn how to DIY four different restorative baths. Here, you can find out how to recreate each sensual soak to help you relieve stress, find focus, cure laziness, or calm your nerves.
Deborah Hanekamp aka Mama Medicine—a seeress with over 16 years in the healing arts as an initiated Amazonian Shaman, Reiki Master and Yogini—believes that sometimes doing nothing is the secret to understanding yourself. “By being alone,” she says, “you can learn so much about your personal truth. Start simply, beginning with the practice of sitting and drinking your morning tea or coffee in silence. Try closing your eyes a bit between sips.”
We reached out to her for advice on how a disorganized bride-to-be can channel her inner focus to prepare for the big day. “When people are afraid of change they tend to get caught in a cycle of procrastination,” she says. “It’s not at all uncommon before getting married to not want to deal with the massive transformation coming your way. Simply acknowledging that fear can bring you clarity. Then you can can start to be gentle with yourself and find the patience to create the perfect wedding.”
At the end of the day, she says, “It can be really helpful while dealing with wedding stress to remember to check in with why you are doing all of this. I would offer a very simple two word mantra: for love.”
While the first crystal-infused soak was created for the anxious bride-to-be, the second spiritual DIY is ideal for anyone lacking focus and feeling overwhelmed. “This bath is designed to help you process the emotions you need to tap into the flow of love.”
Ingredients:
- Small scoop of charcoal powder
- 1-2 cups epsom salt
- 1-2 cups coconut milk
- Burning cinnamon sticks
- Pink rose petals
- Maqui berry powder
- Rose and rosemary essential oils
- Smokey quartz and obsidian crystals
Directions:
Fill a tub with warm water. Add the charcoal, epsom salt, berry powder, and rose petals. Cleanse your aura with the smoke of burning cinnamon sticks, and add the coconut milk to the bath. Step into the bath, dunk your head underwater, and take three cleansing exhales with a sigh. Say into the water three times “I surrender.” Sit and soak in the powerful energy you’ve created.
