With nostalgia playing such an integral role in the season ahead, the idea of straying from tradition can be a challenging one. For those who find themselves ingrained in the idea of decorating with a reserved palette of red, gold, and green, it’s time to rethink your approach.

This year, we’re swapping out the established color scheme of the season for a slightly more moody and dramatic one. Inspired by IKEA’s Vinter 2018 collection, no less, we sought out the necessities that would invite a fresh perspective to the holiday scene.

Need a little more convincing? Read on to see how we’re rethinking the traditional holiday palette.

Glass Ornament, AYTM, $20

Crafted of fine blown glass and secured on a delicate brass chain, this isn’t your ordinary Christmas tree adornment.

Christmas Tree Blanket, Ferm Living, $62.81

With its gold embroidery and blush-toned palette, this Scandi-chic tree skirt is anything but expected.

Totem Candles, Areaware, $12

Rethink the traditional centerpiece and opt for an eclectic display of saturated candles in place of the standard floral display. Mix and match pieces that come in varying heights for a truly ambient tablescape.

Christmas Tree Foot, Ferm Living, $90.22

Here’s a Christmas tree stand you won’t want to hide under a tree skirt. Bonus points for the brass finish and the way it conveniently complements the colors of the tree.

Fringe Stocking in Rose Bisque, Anke Drechsel, $250

Who says stockings can’t double as a decorative focal point? This luxe, velvet piece, with its vibrant fringe detail, promises a refreshing take on the holiday staple.

Faux Blue Berry Spray, Anthropologie, $58

This isn’t your ordinary holiday green. With its speckled hints of blue and delicately faded color scheme, this spray is the ideal addition to the fireplace mantel or holiday tablescape.

Swap your go-to holiday dinnerware for something a little more dramatic. A dark velvet tablecloth, matching plates, and gold-toned accents will give the typical setup a well-deserved upgrade.

Frosty Asparagus Wreath, Terrain, $68

Add this dried and waxed asparagus wreath to a tired doorway for a bold dose of drama.

Marquina Glass Swirl Ornament, CB2, $4.76

A typical glass ornament is reinvented with a marble-inspired finish and a daring black hue. Pair with this bone china swirl option for a truly dynamic duo.
