This year, we’re gearing up to hold Memorial Day celebrations in the backyard. In the absence of beach vacations and park shindigs, we’ll need to zhuzh up our outdoor spaces with a few key purchases—and it looks like Chip and Joanna Gaines are on the same wavelength. The duo’s recently released Target Summer Relaxation Collection is essentially a long weekend starter pack.

If you’ve spent the past couple of months meticulously crafting a calming indoor environment, this line is all about replicating that vibe alfresco. Subdued colors and woven textures rule; larger items, like a hammock (more on that later) and a selection of weather-friendly rugs, are there to help you pull together your very own zen den. Here are the pieces we’re eyeing to transform our yard into the must-visit spot of the season.

To Hang Out In

Found: The chicest hammock we’ve ever seen. Made from sturdy olefin fabric and beechwood bars, it’s so much better than the simple rope one you had in college. Just add pillows and your favorite new reads for the ultimate comfy retreat.

To Set the Mood

Even if all you have is a balcony, adding these string lights will definitely amp up the ambience. Try weaving them along a fence or a plant trellis to warm up your space.

To Ward Off Uninvited Visitors

Mosquitoes aren’t on the guest list—this giant citronella candle will make sure they don’t show up. It’s stylish enough to double as a centerpiece, too; the fresh scent is really just the cherry on top.

To Suit Your Entertaining Style

Extra seating? Makeshift cocktail table? Snack-serving station? This black-and-white ottoman covers the bases, making it the ideal multifunctional piece for all your party-throwing needs—whether that’s future blowouts or, for now, just aperitivo hour with your roommates.

It’s hammer time: Follow @reno_notebook for easy rental updates, clever DIYs, and tips to nail your next project.
