Reading up on Domino’s shopping guides is like having your own personal product concierge. We do the tedious part—deep-dive research, hands-on testing, and tapping experts for advice—so all you have to do is hit “add to cart.” That’s why we call them Simply the Best.

Of all the investment furniture you can buy (you know, fancy sectionals, genuine mid-century teak dressers, a sturdy dining table), a mattress is probably the most important. After all, Americans spend an average of 28 percent of the year asleep, which is quite a good chunk of time (about 103 days in total, actually). And while generations past shopped for mattresses in stores—lying down on each and every floor model—today lots of people make this big purchase without ever hovering their head over a germy store pillow.

One of the most popular and recognizable mattress brands, Tempur-Pedic, has come a long way from the arguably iconic wineglass commercial of the early 2000s and now offers an impressive range of mattresses—from the bed-in-a-box-style Tempur-Cloud to the Tempur-LuxeAdapt Split King with every bell and whistle imaginable. A Tempur-Pedic is an investment, so we’re with you on wanting to soak up every morsel of information before entering your credit card info. But the countless reviews, comparison charts, and customizations available on the site make it easier than ever to confidently click “buy” and wait excitedly by the door for your new mattress.

Before diving in, it’s helpful to know that there are three overarching categories of Tempur-Pedic mattresses: Tempur-Cloud (the entry-level bed-in-a-box), Tempur-Adapt (the more standard mattresses), and Tempur-Breeze (the coolest and most luxurious of the bunch). That said, we distilled all the most relevant mattress info into the guide, below, where you’ll find the very best Tempur-Pedic mattresses for hot sleepers, couples, beginners, shoppers on a budget, and everyone in between. And if you’re not totally happy with it? Tempur-Pedic offers a 90-night risk-free trial. Win-win.

Best Overall: Tempur-ProAdapt

Best Overall

Shop Now

Price: From $2,199 | Temperature regulation: Cool-to-touch | Firmness options: 4 | Spring coils: Optional | Removable cover: Yes | Delivery method: White glove

What we like:

  • 4 different firmness options as well as optional springs
  • Classic Tempur-Pedic construction and feel for purists
  • Easy-wash removable cover

Worth noting:

  • Not the coolest of the range, so not ideal for hot sleepers

Why we chose it: If you’re looking for the classic memory foam mattress that made the brand famous, this is the best choice.

Among the Tempur-Adapt collection, there’s the Tempur-Adapt (11-inch profile), the Tempur-ProAdapt (12-inch profile with 20 percent more cushy memory foam than Adapt), and the Tempur-LuxeAdapt (13-inch profile with 40 percent more memory foam than Adapt). We chose the Tempur-ProAdapt as the best overall because it has all the necessary functions of a classic Tempur-Pedic mattress—a thick layer of supportive foam, four different firmness options, and the same motion separation ability as all its other offerings—just at a middle-of-the-road price.

Plus if you still want the support and feel of a traditional mattress, you can add spring coils to this model. It also comes with an easy-wash cover that serves as a mattress protector and adds a cool-to-touch layer between you and the foam, which isn’t offered with the Cloud or Adapt mattresses. And sure, you could bump up to a LuxeAdapt or a Tempur-Breeze, but if it’s a classic memory foam mattress you’re looking for, you can’t go wrong with this one.

Best Value: Tempur-Cloud

Price: From $1,539 | Temperature regulation: No; moisture-wicking cover only | Firmness options: 1 | Spring coils: Optional | Removable cover: No | Delivery method: Doorstep

What we like:

  • Tempur-Pedic’s first ever mattress-in-a-box, delivered to your doorstep
  • Option to add spring coils
  • Accessible price point

Worth noting:

  • May need an additional cooling mattress cover, as foam runs hot
  • Only 1 firmness option

Why we chose it: The Tempur-Cloud is Tempur-Pedic’s answer to a direct-shipped bed-in-a-box, plus it’s the most accessibly priced of the bunch.

Millennials and Gen-Zers prioritize convenience over a lot of other criteria when it comes to purchasing mattresses, especially when brands like Casper and Leesa have demonstrated that quality mattresses can come right to your doorstep at relatively affordable prices. Enter: the Tempur-Cloud.

It’s the base model of all the Tempur-Pedic mattresses, so if you’re looking for ultimate back support or cooling properties, you might want to check out the ProAdapt or Breeze mattresses. The Tempur-Cloud is only available in one firmness (medium), but you can add spring coils for more support, and it also doesn’t come with a cooling cover (just a moisture-wicking one), so if you run hot at night you might want to supplement with a temperature-regulating cover. But if obtaining a luxury mattress at a reasonable price is your goal, this is a high-quality option.

Best for First-Timers:  Tempur-ProAdapt Hybrid

Best for First-Timers

Shop Now

Price: From $3,099 | Temperature regulation: Cool-to-touch | Firmness options: 4 | Spring coils: Yes | Removable cover: Yes | Delivery method: White glove

What we like:

  • Hybrid construction combines spring coils and memory foam
  • 4 different firmness options
  • Great for someone not sure about switching to an all-foam mattress

Worth noting:

  • Not as much edge support as a traditional mattress
  • Not as cooling as the Breeze line

Why we chose it: This mattress combines classic spring coils and memory foam for the best of both worlds.

Memory foam mattresses are definitely different than traditional pillow-top, spring-coil models, and even if you feel ready to switch to memory foam, this mattress is a great option for making the transition. It combines the Tempur topper with a spring-coil lower to provide a classic feel and edge support, which is what allows you to sit or lie on the edge of the bed without rolling off. That said, this won’t provide the same level of edge support that you’re used to with a traditional mattress.

We also love that there are four different firmness options, since memory foam can seem a bit too firm for someone used to a cushy pillow top. However, the Tempur-ProAdapt Hybrid isn’t as cooling as the Tempur-Breeze line of mattresses, and while there is a cool-to-touch cover, you may want to level up to a cover that’s specifically designed for temperature regulation.

Best for Hot Sleepers: Tempur-Breeze

Best for Hot Sleepers

Shop Now

Price: From $4,099 | Temperature regulation: Sleep up to 8 degrees cooler

| Firmness options: 4 | Spring coils: Optional | Removable cover: Yes | Delivery method: White glove

What we like:

  • Keeps you and your mattress up to 8 degrees cooler at night
  • Comes with an easy-wash cover
  • 12- to 13-inch profile means lots of supportive foam

Worth noting:

  • Most expensive of the lineup
  • Still not as cooling as a nonfoam mattress

Why we chose it: Exceptional cooling properties keep hot sleepers happy, even on memory foam.

Memory foam is not known as the best option for those who sleep hot, as the dense construction doesn’t allow for much airflow between a person, their covers, and the mattress. The Tempur-Breeze line is the answer to this problem, with memory foam layers that are specifically engineered to increase airflow and breathability in the mattress. (Keep in mind, though, a memory foam bed will likely never be quite as cool or breathable as a traditional mattress.)

The Tempur-Breeze mattresses are also constructed with up to 13 inches of the brand’s proprietary Tempur Foam, which makes these models the best in class for support and motion absorption. The cover is another essential aspect for cooling: It’s cool to the touch, like the underside of a pillow, and easily slips on and off for regular cleaning.

Best for Couples: Tempur-LuxeAdapt Split King

Best for Couples

Shop Now

Price: From $6,798 | Temperature regulation: Cool-to-touch | Firmness options: 4 | Spring coils: Optional | Removable cover: Yes | Delivery method: White glove

What we like:

  • Split construction allows couples to have separate sleep experiences
  • Multiple firmness options, and partners can pick different firmness levels

Worth noting:

  • Needs to be purchased with a Tempur-Pedic base
  • Will require 2 different sets of sheets (and possibly blankets)

Why we chose it: For couples that want the ultimate luxury mattress experience (and basically separate beds).

Let’s be honest: Sleeping in a bed with a partner every night certainly has its challenges. Some people toss and turn; some like a big, thick blanket; some want to sleep propped up…it’s difficult to find the perfect happy medium for more than one person. But a split-king bed, like the Tempur-LuxeAdapt Split King, is kind of the perfect solution for a couple with different sleep needs. Each person can pick their own firmness and whether they’d like to add spring coils as well as different kinds of bedding (think: linen versus sateen) if that’s also of interest.

Keep in mind that you’ll need to purchase specific sheets (either from Tempur-Pedic or another retailer) to fit both sides of the split bed, which is actually two twin XL beds side by side. Another added expense is a Tempur-Pedic bed base, which allows each side of the bed to operate independently.

Best Base for Snorers and Sleep Enthusiasts: Tempur-Ergo Extend Smart Base

Best Base for Snorers and Sleep Enthusiastic

Shop Now

Price: From $2,099 | Delivery method: White glove

What we like:

  • Automatically responds to minimize snoring
  • Provides sleep tips and coaching in the connected app
  • Connects to Google or Alexa for voice control

Worth noting:

  • Large additional expense with mattress
  • Requires a connected app to control with your smartphone

Why we chose it: While not a mattress, a smart sleep base is crazy-cool for monitoring your sleep, adjusting your mattress, and making nights even more restful.

If you’re the ultimate health-tracking enthusiast or have tried everything to get a more restful night’s sleep, this is the perfect bed base for you. The Tempur-Ergo Extend Smart Base is a companion product for all of the Tempur-Pedic mattresses and takes your bed to a new level with AI technology that monitors every aspect of your sleep. The smart base is an added expense on top of the purchase of a mattress, but it’s well worth considering for those looking for extra luxury or the most advanced sleep tech.

You will need to download and connect a smartphone app to control the bed and obtain your sleep insights, but according to App Store reviewers, it functions incredibly well. The app tracks your respiration and heart rate, REM versus light or deep sleep, and sleep efficiency, and compiles the data into daily reports that provide tips for improving your sleep. The Smart Base is good for snorers (and their co-sleepers), too: It can adjust automatically to gently change your sleep position when it senses snoring.

How We Chose These Products

We compiled this mattress guide by thoroughly researching the Tempur-Pedic offerings and closely examining their comparison charts to compile unique categories for each kind of sleep need (such as a hot sleeper versus someone who focuses more on value and ease of delivery). We reached out to the Tempur-Pedic team to go over the categories and distinctions between their mattresses to ensure that they lined up with their range of products. In addition, we pored through customer reviews to measure general satisfaction with each of these mattresses and bases, and checked in with an interior designer for how to style a more ergonomic bed (more on that, below).

Our Shopping Checklist

Materials and Construction

While Tempur-Pedic has always been known for its memory foam mattresses (and think about it: Didn’t you find out about this material from the brand’s commercials?), it has greatly expanded its mattress range in the years since the company’s inception. It now offers the option to add spring coils, cooling toppers, and foam with different firmness levels, so no one can say “I just don’t like memory foam” anymore.

Sizes

Lucky for everyone on the bedding spectrum, Tempur-Pedic offers a whopping eight different sizes of mattress: twin, twin long, double (full), queen, king, split king, California king, and split California king. The depth ranges from 10 inches on the Tempur-Cloud to 13 inches on the Tempur-LuxeBreeze, which also means that standard fitted sheets work on most of the mattresses.

Firmness

A common complaint when it comes to memory foam mattresses is that they’re too firm. While that may have been true 10 years ago, technological advances in memory foam have come a long way, and you can now have a memory foam bed that’s just as soft and cushy as a traditional one. Tempur-Pedic offers four different firmness levels across its Tempur-Adapt and Tempur-Breeze collections, from soft to firm, as well as the option to add spring coils to any of its beds for added support and edge control.

Ask Domino

Q: How long do Tempur-Pedic mattresses last?

If your new mattress has a manufacturer’s defect within the first 10 years of purchase, Tempur-Pedic will replace or repair it for free. You can read the warranty description in full here. The sleep experts at Johns Hopkins Center for Sleep just so happen to recommend replacing your mattress every 10 years anyway, so you’re in good shape with this warranty.

Q: Which Tempur-Pedic mattress is the softest?

While this is certainly up to user preference, Tempur-Pedic identifies the Tempur-LuxeAdapt as its softest model, since it has a thick 13-inch profile and the most memory foam material of the lineup.

Q: How can I style a large bed like this to look luxe in my bedroom?

We asked small-space interior designer Shamika Lynch of Maximizing Tiny Interiors how she approaches making large beds look styled and intentional. “For small spaces, I like to get creative with bedside lamps,” she says. “The right one can elevate your space and make it feel like a boutique hotel—think: pendant lights or sconces in place of a table lamp.” She also recommends pairing a large bed with a statement bed frame. “A custom bed frame that extends past the nightstands provides a real luxurious feel,” she says. “By bringing the attention to the headboard and the lighting, you can detract from a more ergonomic bed.”

Q: Do you ever flip a Tempur-Pedic mattress?

Nope! Tempur-Pedic specifically says not to flip its mattresses.

Q: I try to smartly time big purchases. Do Tempur-Pedic mattresses ever go on sale?

Yup, Tempur-Pedic offers special promotions throughout the year, like Memorial Day weekend, when it offer up to $500 off select mattresses. The mattresses are also available from Raymour & Flanigan, MattressFirm, and Sleep Galleria, so keep an eye out for deals from those outlets as well. Lastly, Tempur-Pedic does offer financing through a Tempur-Pedic credit card, issued by Wells-Fargo.

The Last Word

If you’re looking for a mattress with motion separation (so you won’t feel your partner—or your dog—tossing and turning) and pressure relief for your back and joints, you can’t really go wrong with Tempur-Pedic. It basically set the industry standard on memory foam, and it has been perfecting it for some time.
